South Africans will have to brace themselves for electricity price increases in 2026 and 2027. The National Energy Regulator of SA has entered into a settlement with Eskom, giving it an additional R54bn over three years on top of the R1.2-trillion is has already approved. Earlier this year Eskom lodged a judicial review of Nersa's decision to grant Eskom a price increase on the basis it wasn't enough. Following months of halted operations at Daybreak Foods, there seems to be light at the end of the tunnel with the Public Investment Corporation (PIC) approving R150 million in funding. Civil rights organisation, AfriForum has lodged an internal application with the Gauteng Department of Transport for it to answer questions about the cost of the province's new number plates. SAPS Deputy National Commissioner for Crime Detection Lieutenant-General, Shadrack Sibiya has denied any interference in the disbandment of the political killings task team. Sibiya was speaking to the media outside the Pretoria High Court this morning. His case against police commissioner Fannie Masemola did not continue in Court today, after his legal counsel requested a special allocation on the matter and a full bench to preside over it. The Deputy National Commissioner was placed on leave of absence after KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner Lt General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi linked him to criminal syndicates that have infiltrated the police service and having a hand in the disbandment of the political killings task team. 

About 2,6 million households in South Africa have experienced housebreaking/burglary during the past 5 years. That's according to Statistics South Africa. It says in the 2024/25 period, an estimated 1,5 million incidences of housebreaking occurred, affecting 1,1 million households in South Africa. Theft of personal property is the most common crime experienced by individuals aged 16 years and older in South Africa. The EFF says it is not surprised by the announcement of the indefinite delay in the commencement of the Commission of Inquiry into criminality, political interference and corruption in the criminal justice system. This was announced by the Commission earlier today which is led by chairperson Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga. The commission says hearings will not commence on September the first as anticipated due to delays in the procurement of vital infrastructure.
