Members of of the South African police's public order unit have dispersed protesting residents of Unit 15 in Mmabatho, outside Mahikeng, as residents demand the immediate restoration of water supply to their area. ANC Veteran and former government minister, Naledi Pandor has warned party members that the ANC has lost its glory. Dr Pandor's comments follows the party's drop to below 50 percent in last year's national elections.  The 2026 local government elections are also expected to be a highly contested affair for the party.  Basic Education Minister Siviwe Gwarube says education is the foundation of South Africa's prosperity and cannot be the responsibility of government alone. Gwarube, delivered a keynote address at the G20 Business Leaders Luncheon in Cape Town under the theme Partnerships for Education: Building the Future Together. She called for bold, long term partnerships between business, civil society, labour, academia, communities and international allies to expand investment in early learning, improve literacy and numeracy, and create safer schools. 

Professor Barney Pityana has  informed Trade, Industry and Competition Minister Parks Tau of his decision to resign as Board Chair of National Lotteries Commission (NLC). This after helping to stabilize the corruption-hit organization, he leaves with two years of his five-year term remaining. The National Lotteries Commission (NLC) has been marred with alleged corruption and the Democratic Alliance is calling for his swift replacement so that the work to rooting out corruption in that sector can continue. Interested parties and institutions, including survivors and affected families of Human Rights atrocities during the apartheid-era have until today to register to participate in the pre-consultation processes of the Judicial Commission of Inquiry into allegations or attempts to stop the investigation or prosecution of Truth and Reconciliation Commission cases. The Inquiry is led by retired Constitutional Court Justice Sisi Khampepe and it was established by President Cyril Ramaphosa in May this year. The Democratic Alliance (DA) and the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) are turning up the heat on Higher Education and Training Minister Buti Manamela over appointment of three administrators to lead embattled Sector Education and Training Authorities (SETAs). They say the move reeks of cadre deployment and warn that the appointments risk entrenching corruption and maladministration in institutions already crippled by governance failures. A  three-month-old baby boy was shot  during a gang-related incident in Bonteheuwel in Cape Town. The infant was rushed to the hospital by quick-acting residents whose bravery and swift response may very well have saved his life. Parliament's Ad Hoc committee established to look into wide ranging allegations of threats to national security is meeting again today to further discuss its terms of reference.The committee is empowered by National Assembly Rule 253 and was established following the allegations made by General Mkhwanazi.  AD  Hoc committee probing Mkhwanazi allegations to discuss terms of reference. The African Rail Industry Association has welcomed the decision by Transport Minister, Barbara Creecy to approve 11 private train operators to partner with Transnet on South Africa's rail network. Creecy made the announcement following the publication of the Network Statement in December 2024.
