Judgment has been reserved in the bail application of alleged political fixer and North West businessman Brown Mogotsi to next week Thursday, 4th June. Mogotsi appeared before the Johannesburg Magistrates Court for continuation of his bail application. The case was postponed earlier this week for the investigators to once again verify his residential address in Mahikeng, North West. Mogotsi was arrested about two weeks ago on charges of unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition, discharging a firearm in a built-up area, defeating the ends of justice and perjury for allegedly staging a hit on his life in November last year. MKP Chief Whip Mmabatho Mokoena-Zondi has been given a bail of R30 000 by the Cape Town magistrate court until she is back on the 18th of next months at the Bellville Commercial Court.  Mokoena-Zondi was arrested early in the morning today on the allegations of fraud. 3 suspects have been arrested as the Border Management Authority says a major drug consignment worth nearly R1-billion has been intercepted at the Beitbridge Port of Entry. Officials stopped a truck from Malawi during an intelligence-led operation, uncovering 713 000 grams of metha-qualone used in mandrax production. At least 7 illegal miners have been detained and equipment seized on Mashobota Farm near Mbombela in Mpumalanga. A multi-disciplinary team today conducted raids aimed at clamping down on illegal mining in the area. The Electoral Commission is pushing hard to ensure the country's youth shows up at polling stations on the 4th of November.  On Wednesday (27/05) it unveiled several innovations in respect of its communications, geared at capturing the hearts and minds of South Africa's younger generation. Its Communication Campaign launch held in Midrand, Johannesburg, saw the announcement of a youth talk show programme, podcast and revamped call centre - to add to the online registration platform.  The Electoral Management Body also used the event to urge society as a whole to defend the integrity of the country's electoral democracy.  Sakina Kamwendo spoke to political analyst Yolokazi Mfuto

A multi-agency operation targeting foreign-owned businesses has been disrupted across parts of Kimberley today. Members of the South African Police Service, Home Affairs Immigration officials, and the Sol Plaatje Municipality ealier today conducted raids aimed at identifying undocumented foreign nationals and ensuring compliance with municipal by-laws. Many undocumented migrants were arrested in Vosloorus, Ekurhuleni. Several businesses, mostly spaza shops and supermarkets, have also been issued with notices for non-compliance. This follows a Spaza Shop Compliance blitz; some business owners have been found to be operating with expired licenses. The operation is in response to the ongoing impasse between South Africans and undocumented migrants in the country City of Ekurhuleni mayor Nkosindiphile Xhakaza was leading the operation. The US says it has carried out new strikes on Iranian missile sites and naval vessels near Bandar Abbas. The attacks come despite ongoing ceasefire talks involving Iran, Qatar and the United States. Secretary of State Marco Rubio says negotiations continue, but warns Washington will keep vital Gulf shipping lanes open. Iran says progress has been made in talks, but no final agreement is close.
