One person has been arrested following violent clashes between police and protesting University of Cape Town students last night. Police fired rubber bullets and stun grenades to disperse a group of students on the main campus. Police were called in, to help a private company demolish a shack erected by members of the Rhodes Must Fall movement. Lyndon Khan reports from the university..

Zimbabwe police say its still assessing the matter of a dead body found in a compartment on a South African bound cargo plane. The U.S based private plane was enroute from Germany to South Africa when a technical fault forced it to land in Zimbabwe. Blood was seen coming from a crevice on a side of the plane and the body of man was found. The plane was hired by the South African Reserve Bank to carry newly printed notes from Munich to Durban in KwaZulu Natal. Shingai Nyoka reports

Parliament has confirmed that both EFF and COPE MPs will take part this afternoon in the debate of President Jacob Zuma's State of the Nation Address. This is despite both parties disrupting the president's address last week. KwaZulu-Natal police say investigations are underway in the case of a woman allegedly found in possession of boxes containing anti-retroviral medication. Last week, forty-year-old Nomvuso Gloria Sithole, briefly appeared in the eMpangeni magistrate's court in northern KwaZulu-Natal, on a charge of theft and illegal possession of a schedule 4 prescribed drug. The inter ministerial task team has had a series of meetings getting first hand information and also assessing the situation at Lily Gold Mine near Barberton, Mpumalanga.The team arrived at the mine this week following another collapse of two rocks into the shaft, in which the three mine staff members are still trapped under ground.The mine management described the weekend incident as the ongoing scaling down of the side walls. The lawfulness of a disciplinary process against Western Cape Judge President John Hlophe will be argued in the Supreme Court of Appeal today. The case is being brought by Constitutional Court Justices, Bess Nkabinde and Chris Jafta. The two were initially meant to be the principal witnesses against Hlophe at a Judicial Tribunal hearing. They have since lost their arguments at the tribunal and in the high court in Johannesburg, which refused them leave to appeal. Konelo Lekhafola reports

The City of Cape Town's Environmental Management spokesperson, Gregg Oelofse, says there's no specific reason why whales have been beaching along the Cape coastline in the past three months. This comes after the carcass of a six metre long Southern Right whale calf was found on the rocks at Bantry Bay, Sea Point along the Atlantic Seabord yesterday. Corbin August reports..

Democratic Alliance Federal Council that met in Cape Town over the weekend is fully backing DA MP and former Prosecutor Glynnis Breytenbach who is facing criminal charges for contravening the NPA Act and defeating the ends of Justice.
