Thirteen students at the University of Limpopo outside Polokwane have been arrested for malicious damage to property and theft. This after protesting students vandalised and looted cafeterias at the Turfloop campus last night. This came a few hours after they had handed over a memorandum to university management. The students' protest is part of the nationwide -fees must fall campaign. Witness Tiva reports

This year's final matric exams officially begin today, with over 560-thousand Grade 12 learners writing English Paper One at nine O'clock this morning. Over 800-hundred thousand, part-time and full-time candidates, have registered for this year's matric exams. Several thousand learners began with their practical exams last week. Last year's matric exams were marred by a mass cheating scandal in various provinces. Government says measures have been put in place to ensure that this does not happen again. Tourists travelling to South Africa can now enjoy reviewed and relaxed visa laws. This comes after government's decision to revisit the controversial visa laws that have had many travellers worried and inconvenienced. It's been a year since the passing of Bafana Bafana captain Senzo Meyiwa, however the murder mystery remains unsolved. Meyiwa was shot and killed during a robbery in Vosloorus in October last year. He was with his girlfriend Kelly Khumalo and some friends at the time of the tragic incident. Despite police saying there were a number of several leads - there have been no arrests since then. Meanwhile, academics are joining the students in their fight for the democratisation of the country's universities. Students at higher education institutions are insisting that a frank national debate be opened on both the funding and orientation of higher education.
