Amy Brinkley has spent over 14 years leading and investing in the lives of others. Amy has also facilitated, mentored, and created recovery programs for more than 300 women over a 3 year period for the Department of Corrections.

She has also presented as a Certified Recovery Specialist for IDOC, MHA, NAMI, and the DMHA (Division of Mental Health and Addictions) since 2013 on average 2-4 times monthly. She is also the author of Glimpse of Blind Faith which was released in 2013, and is available on AMAZON.COM

The Walk is a life story being narrated by a guest host that has struggled through addiction and found a life changing recovery. This first episode the guest host Cyrus, takes us on a tour of his life starting with alcohol at an elementary school age to heroine as a young adult. He describes his experience with opioids and heroin up to the point where he almost died of a drug overdose but was saved by what he recognizes as the Grace of God. While narrating his life story Cyrus shares with us several songs that were meaningful to him at that point in his life.

Interview with former teacher and now gifted artist Dorothy Graden at Fluid Coffeebar in Valparaiso, IN. Dorothy was a kindergarten teacher for 25 years prior to retiring and pursuing her passion.

Pleas note that there is an intermission at 30 min for station identification as well as music. The interview continues afterward. 

We talked with Dorothy about her inspiration to pursue her passion of being an artist dating back to her childhood. Dorothy spoke about her current passions, hiking and scuba diving and how they infuluence her artwork. Her art is primarily inspired by rock art found in the Southwest as well as sea life she encountered while scuba diving. 

Dorothy took us on an amazing visual and audio tour of each one of her art pieces. With her amazing communication skills, obviously perfected from her 25 year teaching career and amzing use of imagery you can almost see her art using your minds eye.

On Friday morning, September 1, 2017,  we visited with Pete Peuquet, President and CEO Chester, Inc and Rich Shields, Director of Marketing and Business Development, Chester Inc. at the Chester, Inc. headquarters.

Pete and Rich took us through the amazing history of Chester, Inc. from its infancy in the 40s under it’s original owner, George F. Chester operating under the name of George F. Chester & Sons Seed Co. We also learned about its transition under new owners, Charlie Bowman and Orville Redenbacher in the 50s to present day under it’s present President and CEO, Pete Prequet.

Pete took us through the birth of the Orville Redenbacher Popcorn, which put Valparaiso on the map. He also shared with us how the first Popcorn Fest came to be as a collaboration between Chester, Inc and the Valparaiso Chamber of Commerce in 1979.

Chester, Inc is a diversified corporation consisting of several individual divisions, Architecture/Construction, Chester Technology, Development and Agriculture Products and Foods Division. Truly a company that has grown organically based on their customer’s need from a seed distributor in 1940.

August 15, 2017 our returning guests are Mary Beth Nordquist-Schultz the Executive Director of The Caring Place and Carolyn Hartley Co-Chair for The Caring Place Capital Campaign. The Caring Place, Inc. and provides service and shelter for victims of violence and their children.

We will be discussing the mission of The Caring Place as well as updating our listeners on their Capital Campaign to raise funds for the construction of a new larger building that will accommodate more victims and their family who are in need of shelter.

This week's show started off with our interview with Porter County Sheriff David Reynolds and Porter County Sheriff Department Program Director Jay Birky. Sheriff Reynolds and Jay Birky discuss the Sheriff Department's new initiatives to fight the growing drug abuse epidemic in Porter County.

Second part of the show we discussed renewable energy sources, specifically Solar Energy. Bill Moran along with Jon Groth the Director of Porter County Educational Services wa joined by Carl Lisek of South Shore Clean Cities and Marc Van Dongen of Midwest Wind and Solar.

We discussed the history of Solar Energy from its infancy in 1954 at Bell Labs to current day state, a growing energy source.

We also take you through a soup to nuts discussion on everything you will need to consider when planning a solar energy producing solution.

On Friday, August 4, 2017 we met with Porter County Sheriff David Reynolds and the Program Director Jay Birky.

We talked with Sheriff Reynolds and Jay Birky about three topics;

The Porter County Vivitrol program for those who have been incarcerated for drug possession. VIVITROL is a treatment program that blocks the effects of opioids. VIVITROL is the first and only non-addictive, once-monthly medication that, when combined with counseling, is proven to help prevent relapse to opioid dependence.

We also discussed how a person qualifies for the Vivitrol treatment program.

The Sheriff also discussed the production of The Porter County Heroin Epidemic Video that is an educational video directed at young adults.

The Sheriff also discussed the use of NARCAN™ (NALOXONE) on overdose victims.  

We would like to that Sheriff Reynolds and Jay Birky for sharing their valuable time to share information on these important topics with us. We would also like to commend Sheriff David Reynolds and the Porter County Sheriff’s Department on their continued efforts to help fight the growing drug epidemic in Porter County.
