Now he’s helping a right-wing industry group come into Oneida County and rewrite the long-term plan for economic development so that it’s harder for residents to keep their land in conservation programs.

Former reality TV star-turned-congressman Sean Duffy was nominated late Monday to be the next US Transportation Secretary. He doesn’t have direct transportation administration experience, but he checks all the other boxes: White. Male. Conservative. Pledges to make it harder for women and minorities to become pilots and air traffic controllers, after President-elect Trump implied they’re less qualified and less safe than their white, male counterparts.

New maps did the right thing: giving Wisconsin more competitive races and a more balanced Legislature. But the diminished number of Republicans lawmakers showed they remain indifferent to the voice of the voters, returning Assembly Speaker Robin Vos to a position that lets him bottle up the things that could benefit the state. We’ll talk to Rep. Jodi Emerson and Rep.-elect Christian Phelps about their hopes for putting a few cracks in the Speaker’s brick wall.
