US envoy Steve Witkoff has left Moscow after meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Mr Witkoff's last-minute visit was aimed at creating a breakthrough on a ceasefire and ultimately a peace deal with Ukraine.

President Trump has given Mr  Putin until August 8 to agree to a peace deal, or face heavy new tariffs on countries that buy Russian oil or other exports.
