MCMINNVILLE MEDIC 5 STAFFED AT AMITY FIRE DISTRICT

McMinnville Fire Department, through a partnership with the Amity Fire District, has staffed an additional Ambulance Medic Unit to be assigned to the Amity Fire Station, Monday through Friday from 0800 until 1700. The unit staff is made up of a Paramedic and an EMT Basic Firefighter provided through McMinnville Fire Department. "This partnership allows our two organizations to provide a higher level of care and deliver faster emergency response to our community" said Amity Chief Bruce Hubbard. McMinnville has always provided ambulance service to the Amity Fire District from their main station in downtown McMinnville, but with the increase in call volume there is a need for additional coverage and support to the entire ambulance service area. McMinnville Fire Chief Rich Leipfert stated that this ambulance will, in addition to covering Amity and southern Dayton Fire District, respond to calls in the McMinnville ambulance service area that in the pas t have been covered by other ambulance providers here in Yamhill County. 

The goal in partnering our Fire Departments is to provide an opportunity for both organizations to start working closer together, and integrate its training, people, and service areas. Chief Leipfert stated "We rely on each other during all major fire incidents. We already support each other; this helps us even more to provide a quick and reliable emergency response to our communities." 

Both the McMinnville City Council and the Amity Fire District Board of Directors approved this partnership.

On September 5, 2016 at about 7PM, OSP Troopers and emergency personnel responded to the report of single vehicle rollover on Highway 153 near milepost 8 (east of Amity). 

Preliminary investigation revealed a 2004 Lexus sport utility was traveling eastbound on Highway 153 (Amity Road) when it drifted across the westbound lane and onto the north shoulder. The Lexus then crossed all lanes of travel, exited the south side of the highway, entered a field and rolled multiple times. 

The driver, Todd A HAYES, age 51, of Amity, was pronounced deceased on scene. Speed and alcohol are being investigated as contributing factions. The highway was partially blocked for four hours while the crash was investigated. OSP was assisted by Amity Fire, Yamhill County Sheriff's Office and the Oregon Department of Transportation. More information will be released when it becomes available.

Cordon Road has reopened to regular traffic, the Sheriff's Office has concluded that an adult male, was walking in the middle of Cordon Road NE when he was struck by a north bound driver who as headed to work. 

The Sheriff's Office has not been able to identify the deceased male as he had no identification and may have been homeless. The Sheriff's Office is withholding all of the names of the involved parties until proper identifications and notifications can be made, that time frame is not yet known.

Deputies with the Marion County Sheriff's Office are on scene and investigating a traffic crash that has left one person dead on Cordon Road NE near Carolina Avenue NE in Salem. From their initial investigation deputies believe a person was walking in the middle of Cordon Road NE when they were struck by an oncoming vehicle. 

The person walking in the roadway was killed instantly, the driver of the only vehicle involved was not injured. Cordon Road is currently closed from Sunnyview Road North East to Carolina Avenue North East and drivers should use alternate routes during their morning commute.

The McMinnville city council has made some organizational changes this morning to city staffing regarding the city attorney and a new full time position for Human Resources Director.   That new position will be filled by Rose Lorenzen,  a person who has been the city clerk /recorder for McMinnville.   The council was unanimous in their feeling they want a more direct communication with the city attorney. 

   The new organizational flow chart has the city attorney reporting to both the council and the city manager.     The new position of Human Resources Director will report directly to the city attorney.   Also, the recorder function will be moved from the finance department to the new position of city recorder and legal assistant.

the statement released from the council says the city attorney and the city manager will work closely on issues.  But in this morning's meeting it seems clear the council wants a more define role of inclusion  in legal matters pertaining to the city.

the city has recently completed a city manager's evaluation.   That report, or the outcome of that evaluation has been formally requested by both KLYC Radio and the News Register in a public records request under the freedom of information act.    We expect a copy of that report today and will report on it's contents.
