On March 1, 2016 at about 4:30AM, OSP Troopers and emergency personnel responded to the report of two vehicle head-on crash on Highway 47 near milepost 37 (just north of Carlton).
Upon emergency crews arriving on scene they discovered three adults deceased in a 1992 Honda Accord which had sustained heavy damage in the collision. Also in the accord was a four year old child who was critically injured. The child was taken by ground ambulance to Willamette Valley Medical Center in McMinnville and transferred to Oregon Health & Science University for life threatening injuries.
Preliminary investigation revealed the Accord was traveling northbound on Highway 47 when it drifted across the centerline into the path of a southbound 2008 GMC pickup. The driver of the Honda Accord, Teven Ray Stone, age 24 from Sheridan, Oregon, right front passenger, Jennifer A. Heath, age 39 from McMinnville and rear passenger, Johnny E. Highley, age 45 were declared deceased at the scene. It appeared several of the occupants in the Honda Accord were not wearing seatbelts and or in child safety seats.
The driver of the pickup, Jeff Morgan, 64 of Yamhill, Oregon received serious but non-life threatening injuries and was taken to a Portland hospital.
Highway 47 was closed for approximately 4 ?1/2 hours with a detour in place. OSP was assisted by the Oregon Department of Transportation, Yamhill County Sheriff's Department, and the Carlton Fire Department. The investigation is continuing.
