A 13 year veteran of the Seaside, Oregon police department was shot and killed while serving a felony warrant for assault.  In a news conference Saturday morning, the district attorney outlines what happened.Sgt. Jason Goodding and another officer observed a man they knew was wanted on a felony assault warrant.  They attempted to arresed 55 year Phillip Ferry.   Officers used a tazer to subdue the suspect, then Sgt Goodding tried to further subdue the suspect.  He was close to Ferry when Ferry pulled a weapon and fired, mortally wounding the Sergeant.  A backup officer fired three shots, hitting Ferry.   Ferry was taken to an Astoria hospital and apparently died in enroute to the hospital.   Oregon State Police are conducting an investigation.  Police are looking for a person, possibly a witness to what transpired.  they stress the public is not in danger and there are no other suspects they are looking for.   Authorities stress that Ferry was well known to police after several run ins with the law and the district attorney's office

NEWBERG CITY COUNCIL APPROVES CODE CHANGE TO ALLOW GROW AND PROCESSING SITES FOR MEDICAL MARIJUANAOn a four to three vote last night (monday) night, the Newberg city council changed their development code to allow for the siting of medical marijuana grow sites and locations that could process canabis.  A grow location could serve up to two patients and have up to 12 plants.  A site will be allowed in residential zones R-1 through R-3.   Council was divided on a recomendation from the planning commission to require electrical inspections due to a concern about homes exceeding their electrical capacity due to grow lights.  In the end, councilors opted to be compassionate and not create undue financial burdens on growers.   Again, it passed on a four to three vote.Council also approved medical marijuana processing to be allowed in all inudstrial zones, districts and subdistricts except the airport district.City councilors also started the ball rolling on developing regulations for locations to sell recreational marijuana.  That city code modification will start in committee and go to the planning commission for review and approval before it comes back for final approval with the Newberg City council.

NEWBERG CITY COUNCIL MOVES TO BREAK LOG JAM ON BYPASS ROUTENewberg city council approved an agreement last night to try and break the log jam over what the bypass looks like going through their town. They approved an intergovernmental agreement in principal, and will allow the city manager pro tem and mayor Bob Andrews to hammer out the specific details with ODOT.three agreement states the city of Newberg does not want to slow the completion of phase one of the bypass. 19 improvements will also be completed by ODOT, partially paid by the city in installment payments.Those improvements include a traffic signal at Springbrook Road and Fernwood road, Second STreet. Police and fire also get their emergency access from Weatherly Way to the Bypass at mile post 58.There will be a new local street frontage road called Weatherly Way located on the North side of the bypass improvements. Rerouting and connection of Wilsonville Road to the new bypass signalized intersection on Oregon highway 219. Construct two southbound turn lanes on Springbrook Road at highway 219.

ODOT: Valley, No. Coast: Update: The semi truck that was blocking the fast lane of SB I-5, north of Creswell at milepost 183, has been removed. The fast lane remains closed as crews remain on the scene to complete cleanup for another hour and a half. Travelers should expect delays in the area. UPDATE
