Vote was taken after a letter surfaced from Clackamas County asking LCDC to step in and "mediate" between the jurisdictions over concerns that municipalities could not agree on a route through Newberg.  This letter has not yet been sent to the state commission.  The Yamhill County Parkway Commission was unanimous in their decision to not see the project delayed and to promote a conversation about the route through Newberg in a timely manner so as to not delay the overall bypass project.

Yamhill County commissioners approved a 126-thousand dollar

grant for the Yamhelas Westside Trail project.  

This grant would be used to buy almost three –and-a-half miles of land

for the trail.  Commissioners Primizich

and Springer voted in favor.  Commission

Chair Starrett voted against it, saying she agrees with farmers fearing the trail

could interfere with their ag practices and she is concerned no one has an

estimate of how much this project will eventually cost, and they will want even

more money from the county.

Commssioner Stan Primizich said the trail is important as

another means of connecting Yamhill and Carlton, and he says that’s important

for Carlton school kids to be able to walk or ride bikes to Yamhill Middle and

High Schools.   Giving them another option other than using

busy highway 47.  He also believes it’s

important to economic development.

County administrator Laura says the Yamahalis trail group

has applied for a private grant to pay for additional trail costs.  Those additional costs include a thousand

dollars dollar for a cultural assessment.  

And a survey that could cost up to 20-thousand dollars.
