MCMINNVILLE MAN ARRESTED IN RURAL NEWBERG STABBING32 year old Andrew Alan Nelson, arrested yesterday by Yamhill County Detectives after an investigation into a stabbing incident on Dog Ridge Road near Newberg will be arraigned today at 1:30 p.m. in Yamhill County Circuit Court. His current charges of Assault in the 2nd Degree an d Unlawful Use of a Weapon carry a bail of $157,500. As reported in the earlier media release, Nelson is alleged to have stabbed a female acquaintance the day prior during an altercation in rural Newberg. Detective Nicole Rickles, the arresting Detective, indicated in her charging instrument that the victim was stabbed with a knife in the left upper shoulder while seated in the driver's seat of a vehicle while Nelson was outside her door. The stabbing occurred after an exchange of words. The victim drove from the scene, with Nelson holding onto the exterior of the car. The car stopped a short distance away and the victim and a passenger fled the vehicle for help. The victim was later treated and released from the hospital. Nelson left the scene but was located in McMinnville a short time later and was taken into custody without incident by McMinnville Police and Sheriff's deputies. Sheriff Tim Svenson praised the interagency cooperation that led to the quick apprehension. "I'm very proud of the way our agencies in Yamhill County support and assist each other when the need arises. In this particular case it was instrumental in getting Mr. Nelson into custody quickly and without further incident.
