Competing in District in Seattle, Yamhill county robotics team is hoping to win and then move on to international competition in Houston, Texas.    District competition is this week in Seattle.

Nerd Herd competing in District Tournament.  They will know at the end of today who they will compete with other teams in Seattle.   They hope to go on to international competition.   

For the first time in the history of NerdHerd we are one step away from a competition earned spot at the FRC World Championships in Houston! Last weekend we won our district event in Lake Oswego and this week we are competing at the PNW District Championships in Tacoma. This is a huge accomplishment for any team; especially for a team of fewer than a dozen hard-working students from Yamhill County who compete against teams of 50 or more people. It is also a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for our seniors. Our district competitions are 30 to 40 teams, 64 teams compete at the District Championships. 600 teams from all over the world will be competing in Houston.If we achieve this goal we will have only a few days to pay the $5000 registration fee and a week and a half to make travel arrangements. That is why we are fundraising NOW for a competition we won’t qualify for until a week from now. Please help us make this trip where we can inspire and be inspired by high schools students from all over the world as well as meet representatives from hundreds of high tech companies, colleges, and universities.The Houston World Championships take place April 17-20, 2019. We are a team that is used to working with a restricted budget and we promise to keep our expenses down as much as possible but even so, we can not make it without help.Every little bit counts, so please contribute what you can. Every year we have to fundraise for new tools, building materials, team transportation, uniforms, registration, and myriad other items necessary to our continued success. KLYC and our merchant partners will give away four 4-foot tall Easter Bunnies this year.  Drawing on Friday, April 19th 5pm. 

 1. Limit of one entry per household at each location.

2. You are encouraged to sign up at all four locations.

3. The entries at each location will be used in the drawing for the bunny at that location.

4. You can only win one bunny, even if your name is drawn at more than one location. If you have already won a bunny, and your name is drawn at another location. KLYC will draw another name.

5. Drawing will be 5pm Good Friday. Of course there will be a separate drawing at each location and you don't have to be present to win.

Highway 18 is open today, Tuesday, April 2, after it was for seven hours after a 9am Monday crash.    A wood chip truck driven by 54 year old Marvin Brown of Vancouver, Washington, was eastbound and left his lane of travel, crossed the highway and hit the bridge over the Yamhill River.

Oregon State Police station Commander Fred Testa tells KLYC News it doesn't appear there was a mechanical problem with the truck and they don't know why it cross the highway.

There may be some damage to the bridge that ODOT will have to fix at a later date, but ODOT's Lou Torris says the bridge is safe for travel today.

SEMI HITS BRIDGE, CLOSES HIGHWAY 18 AT DAYTON

Highway 18 is closed in both directions at Dayton. A large semi truck, driven by 54 year old Marvin Brown of Vancouver, Washington, was eastbound and left his lane of travel, crossed the highway and hit the bridge over the Yamhill River.

Oregon State Police station Commander Fred Testa tells KLYC News it doesn't appear there was a mechanical problem with the truck and they don't know why it cross the highway.

Today at 3:18 p.m., the Marion County Sheriff’s Office was called to a motor vehicle crash on McKay Road NE just east of Highway 219 near St. Paul.  A passerby came upon the two vehicle crash after it had occurred and called 911.

Crash investigators have determined that a pickup truck was driving west on McKay Road when it left the roadway, came back onto the roadway and struck an eastbound box van.  Speed is believed to be a primary factor in the crash.

The two occupants of the pickup truck and the single occupant of the box van died on scene.  The Sheriff’s Office will not be releasing any information regarding the deceased individuals until their next of kin have been notified. That time frame is not yet known.
