On this episode of the USAFBL Fingerboard Podcast, we sit down with West Coast fingerboarder Ryan Singer for an honest, necessary conversation about the state of fingerboarding on the West Coast.

They unpack why California, the birthplace of modern fingerboarding has struggled to grow at the same pace as the East Coast and Midwest. Topics include gatekeeping, fragmented scenes, shop-centric power structures, competition culture, social pressure, and why time itself has become the clearest indicator that something isn’t working.

This episode is not about attacking individuals, it’s about accountability, structure, and calling attention to the systems that either allow a scene to thrive or quietly hold it back. If the West wants to flourish again, hard conversations have to happen. This is one of them.
