UUMAN Unitarian Universalist Metro Atlanta North Church episodes

  • The Wheel of Fortune

Fate and fortune have puzzled theologians, philosophers, all of humanity throughout human history. Is “what goes on here” defined by arbitrariness, or is there some kind of puzzling direction to our existence? What are we to do? This Sunday's service, you will hear some singing. And you'll be hearing more to come in our near future, it seems.

  • Neighborhood Connections Ministry

Join Rev. Dave Dunn, our worship associate Mandi Winders, and a cast including a recent seminary student and a Family Promise leader as they provide support for a new program of personal connections. Can we live up to our motto to "Nurture Our Spirit, Strive for Justice, and Transform the World", one relationship at a time? By simply being present with and having a personal relationship with those in our community who are not necessarily like “us,” we can. How is this done?

  • Blessing of the Animals

As Rev. Dave says at the service's close, "may we learn from their example." This service is one where, due to copyright restrictions, the audio-only podcast is at a disadvantage, since Alex Pietsch's exquisite accompaniment relies entirely on material that is not allowable in a downloadable podcast. (It's one of the rare times when we'll ask that you go to our YouTube channel, where such things can be legally monetized, if you want to hear any the music. Save for one commercial jingle that we elected to leave in.)

However, a listen of this abbreviated service episode will provide the sage advice given by poets, our worship associate and reverend. Along with our four-legged best friends' vocalizations at opportune moments.

  • Religion and the Poetic Imagination

Religion and spirituality include mystery, that which transcends understanding; otherwise, we would simply call it philosophy. So how do we relate to what is so important, so rooted in our souls, yet cannot be fully described? Poetic metaphor and imagery are powerful tools that can help us relate to and be inspired by that which we cannot fully understand, in some ways similar to modeling in science.
