Dominicans, Francisans and Jesuits... Oh my!

Pope Leo is "Augustinian".   He was the Master of that Order before he was Bishop and eventually our Holy Father.   Is the Pope Catholic?   :)   Yes, of course, he's Augustinian Catholic.

Our local bishop is Franciscan.   Wait, I thought Bishops had to be Catholic.... :) Yes, of course, he's a Franciscan Catholic.  

The panelists are all Lay Dominicans.   But isn't this a Catholic podcast?   Yes.   We are Dominican Catholics!     We are members of the Dominican Order, what most of us describe as our Dominican family.  It's an 800 year old Order of Preachers.

So what do all these different flavors of Catholic represent?   What even is an "Order"?    What purpose do they serve?

If you are listening and at all curious, we expect you'd have these questions.    In our Fly Wheel, this falls nicely into the pillar of Community.

So...  You listened to the episode on which Bible to read and bought the perfect one (or two) for you.   While just reading will be fruitful, why not study the Word as well?

Back to prayer, and the highest form of prayer, The Holy Mass.

Now that you've settled into your daily or weekly schedule and are attending the Mass at a time that works for you, how do you participate in that Mass with strength and confidence?    With reverence and adoration?   How do you get "in step" with all those around you?    

By knowing what you are doing, why you are doing it and how you do it well you will quickly progress for trying to keep up to being still before our Lord in spite of the movement....   You can begin to make the Mass truly your prayer and offering to the Lord with your fellow parishioners as the Body of Christ.

Clerical Clarification on Service.   You may feel very motivated to serve.   To prove that your fervor is real and you are ready to renew the face of the earth.   Service means different things to different people and that's especially true when one of those people is a learned and lettered priest.  Namely, Father Matlak.   He gives us his take on this question as well as his opinion of American beer... :)

Service.   Your service to the Church and all those in need around us is the best evidence of a living faith.    It's also the answer to a common question you might have as a NewCon...   "How can I help?".    If you are not asking this question, you should be!    Not only will you make a difference in the world and attract more people to the Way (aka Jesus) but your faith will be enriched with those graces that flow deepest where it's darkest in our world. 

This is the fourth and final pillar and the last push on our fly wheel of faith for this cycle...   If you are listening AND acting on what you are hearing, we hope your fly wheel is starting to turn.  Don't worry!  It's not the end of S1!   Next we cycle back to Prayer.
