VCRWORLD

It’s been a slow movie year BUT there’s also been plenty of bright spots. Theaters are back open (mostly), streaming platforms are putting out new stuff every week, and we’re here to help you find the best of the best. Brian and Drew will each share their Top 10 lists and hit on everything that didn’t quite make the cut. How many titles will we have in common and how many Nic Cage movies will make Drew’s list? Tune in to find out!

This isn’t your normal movie review. We watched The Suicide Squad, while drunk, and then, ooooops, we talked about while at least one of us was obliterated. You’ll have to listen to see if you can guess which of us is super sauced. No, you’re drunk. I mean, who doesn’t like sharks and rats packs and polka dots and all that shit. Strap in, starfuckers.

Don’t know if you heard, but there was a big announcement last week. Elon Musk and Tesla have promised to make domestic humanoid robots a reality by the end of 2022. Yep. Does the idea of owning a dish-washing, grocery shopping, rechargeable assistant freak you out or satisfy you wildest sci-fi dreams? Brian and Drew discuss whether they’ll be purchasing the Tesla Bot next year and what it means for the future of humankind. Is it the beginning of the end … or a crowning technological advancement? Time to find out.

Not gonna lie …we had the best time ever talking to Olivia about everything under the sun and moon and stars above. From that time she drove through a mysterious blue light to encounters with the paranormal to her favorite era of Gatorade … it’s all here for your listening pleasure. Then, just when you think things might slow down, we take turns sharing our impromptu Top 10 Movies of All Time. Olivia is easily as movie-crazy as we are, if not more, so there’s no stopping the good times. Seriously, I hope you’re ready to nerd out with us on another interstellar episode of VCRWORLD. Greetings, podlings.

We couldn’t help ourselves. Cruising on Cage energy, we had to keep the good times rolling and discuss the most interesting things we’ve seen lately and then some. It’s the first of many bonus talks to come where the mics are on and the regulators are off. Sit back and relax while we jump from one topic we can’t resist to the next. We love this shit and hope you feel the same.

Back by popular demand, Brian and Drew perform another round of the hit segment Will it Sequel? The contestants this time … two Nic Cage flicks with very different tones but more in common that you may think. Honeymoon in Vegas is all about the promise of young love, while Leaving Las Vegas is, well, pretty damn bleak. The question is … what happened in the roughly three years between the end of Honeymoon and the start of LLV. Join us in Vegas to find out!

If you like movies with an edge, you’ll love our guests this week. VCRWORLD talks horror, tapes, aliens, and more with the killer queen Samara Weaving and Jimmy Warden. We find out which pirate performer inspired Samara to start acting and why Jimmy refuses to try Australia’s favorite food spread. What a pleasure to have this pair on the podcast. Hope you enjoy the convo as much as we did.

The wait is finally over! Not only are we back from a little break, we’re also doing our first ever VHS tape review. How did it take this long? Sure we’ll talk about the movie Monster Squad but it’s really about the whole tape experience, man. The opening DING, the box art, the trailer(s?), the tracking, everything that takes you back to a better time … a time when VCRs ruled the WORLD. Brace yourselves for the first of many VHS reviews to come.

Ever wonder what happens after you die? What about aliens … what’s their deal? Brian and Drew stretch their minds to the farthest reaches of the universe this week, looking for answers to life’s biggest questions. Like, if this is all a simulation, then who’s running it and why? Believe it or not, we have an answer. If you’re ready to meet your maker, we can show you the way. Come on. The truth is right here.

Let’s talk about all of our favorite things from when we were young (other than movies). What were Brian and Drew snacking on, playing with, reading, and doing on a typical day … back in 1998? Remember Book Fairs and Field Days? Boy do we miss those times, even though life was far from perfect in middle school. Stick around to find out who wore head gear and who had an eight Dr. Pepper a day habit. Favorite fast food? Go!
