"It's a Miserable Life" is not only the way many of us are feeling now but it's also the name of The Golden Girls episode Dave and Vicki discuss on this week's Vegan Cheesecake. Rose tells their mean neighbor Frieda Claxton to drop dead and she takes it literally leaving the girls to take care of her funeral. Mean neighbors, nice lesbians, Menudo, vegan food and the importance of having bail money are just a few topics that get addressed along the way.
Known deadbeat, Stan, is back and expects his ex-wife Dorothy to console him when he loses his business in this week's episode "Take Him He's Mine" (ep. 3, s. 2) of The Golden Girls. Dorothy pawns him off on Blanche and then finds herself angry when Blanche has fun with Stan. Dave and Vicki discuss the proper etiquette for dating or not dating someone's ex as well as offer up some vegan food ideas for people stuck at home during self-quarantine. Dave also admits that he's the type of person who isn't above ruining some kid's lemonade stand.
The Golden Girls are mistaken for "Ladies of the Evening" and miss their chance to meet dreamboat Burt Reynolds in episode 2 of season 2. Dave and Vicki revisit this classic episode and also discuss hot repairmen, hooker cookbooks and ponder which celebrities would turn them into sluts.
We are onto season 2 of The Golden Girls as we discuss "The End of the Curse" and Dave spends more time discussing periods than most men ever do. Vicki and Dave also come dangerously close to discussing serious issues in clear violation of this silly podcast's mission statement.
Poor Rose. Another man has died in her bed in the classic Golden Girls episode "In a Bed of Rose's" (episode 15, season 1) and Vicki declares Rose patient zero of a new condition known as deadly punani. Dave discovers that Vicki's bra is like the Bermuda triangle and they each talk about some of their favorite recent vegan eats. Dave raves about the desserts from Pie Pie My Darling in Chicago and Vicki finally got her butt to Otani for some amazing vegan sushi.
Blanche's aptly named niece, Lucy, comes to Miami to interview for college and give her aunt a run for her money in the man-hungry department in this week's episode "Nice and Easy" (epside 17, season 1) of The Golden Girls. Dave and Vicki aren't here to slut-shame Lucy though, mainly because they are too busy talking about cruelty-free mouse catching, check-out line weirdos and Dave's vegan pancake obsession.
After taking a week off for mental and physical health, Dave and Vicki are back to discuss another hilarious episode of The Golden Girls, "The Truth Will Out" (episode 16, season 1). Family secrets, Brussels sprouts and Vicki's ever-growing "heifer list" are all on the docket and Dave offers up his thanks for a surprise delivery from Bartleby's Seitan Stand.
Dave tries to keep Vicki conscious from a post-brunch food coma as they discuss "Stan's Return" (ep. 11, season 1) of The Golden Girls. In this episode, Dorothy's dirtbag ex-husband pays a visit after he gets dumped while Rose and Blanche try to decide on a vacation destination. Speaking of vacations, Dave and Vicki discuss their desire to visit Modern Love on a vegan road trip.
Sitcom legend Polly Holliday stars as Rose's blind sister in "Blind Ambition" (episode 23, season 1) while the Golden Girls get ready for a garage sale. Dave and Vicki discuss the show but also talk about their recent meals from Squash the Beef, Seitan's Realm and Two Dollar Radio Headquarters as well as almost burning down the house.
Blanche has her "me too" moment when her professor offers her some extra credit to pass a class in "Adult Education" (episode 20 of season 1) of The Golden Girls. As Dorothy tries to score Sinatra tickets Dave and Vicki discuss their own borderline creepy pop star obsessions.
