Bicarbonat i cykling – hvorfor?
-

Why bicarbonate in cycling?
Buffering acid build-up When pushing above FTP, muscles produce lactate and hydrogen ions (H+). Although often wrongly called “lactic acid,” the real issue is falling pH. Bicarbonate acts as a buffer, helping maintain a neutral pH, so you can push harder, longer.
Traditional dosing The classic protocol: 0.2–0.3 g/kg bodyweight 1–3 hours before the race. But effects fade after 3–4 hours – often right when the race finale begins.
The on-the-go solution Encapsulated bicarbonate now makes it possible to top up your buffer mid-race, extending the effect. It’s a unique innovation that PAS Racing’s Thomas Bundgaard explains more about in the episode.
