Pastor Timothy opens Romans 2:1-5 with the proposition that YOU have no excuse. Why?

1.) God’s judgment falls on those who practice “such things.”

2.) The self-righteous do “such things.”

What is the truth about God?

He is kind (referring to the benefits God gives to us)

He is forbearing (bearing with sinners knowing the magnitude of their sin).

He is patient (referring to bearing long with sinners, without punishing)

3.) The self-righteous self-justify.

4.) The self-righteous are under God’s judgment.

Repentance isn’t primarily a change of behavior. It’s a change of orientation, from idols to God Himself.

How should we live differently as Christians?

1. We are lovers of pleasure more then lovers of God. II Tim. 3:1-4.

2. We view ourselves as supreme Rom. 1:24.

3. We view people as our completion instead of Jesus. How then should we live? Pull out the roots and recognize our tendency to embrace a slow fade in our beliefs, our actions and even our clothing.

Pastor Timothy makes the statement that worship is the valuing of something above all other things The real question then is what do you worship because every human being worships ALL the time.

John Calvin says” The evil in our desires typically does not lie in what we want, but that we want it too much”.The point is that false worship leads to sinful service and dishonorable results. Proof #1. Homosexuality. Proof #2: All manner of sins … relational, theological, personal, and familial. The point being when we do not worship God, everything falls apart.

Humans are not sinners because they sin. They sin because they are sinners.
