Chores & Easy Days - Does it ever get easy? Yes! It does...but not for a long while. BUT the time and effort of training your kids (and yourself) to accomplish chores and other tasks around the home is well worth it!
"The Mother who takes pains to endow her children with good habits secures for herself smooth and easy days. While she who lets their habits take care of themselves has a weary life of endless friction with the children." -Charlotte Mason
Highlights:
-Kids can do more than you think
-Do difficult or new chores WITH your child until they can do it on their own.
-Use a dry-erase board to note chores to be done which kids can check off when they are done....and then make sure to:
-FOLLOW-THROUGH
-Kids don't like to be made to feel like slaves...they are not your slaves.
-Your kids' value is not in how productive they are, but in who they are...create an atmosphere of working together.
-Thank your children for their hard work and help to keep the household running.
-Be an example to your kids...follow through with yourself!
-Allow kids to have lots of daily free time to pursue their own interests after chores are done. (And chores should not be so extensive that they cannot reasonably get them done with or without you in order to have that free time.)
-Bad parenting is easy, but good parenting is a lot of hard work! Make a plan, tweak as needed, and then follow through.
