In Luke 16:16-18, Jesus declares that the Law and Prophets ended with John the Baptist, after whom the kingdom of God is preached. John pointed to Jesus as the Lamb of God. Jesus affirms the Law’s permanence and teaches that divorce and remarriage constitute adultery, calling people back to God’s original design for lifelong, one-flesh marriage rooted in Genesis 2.

Jesus told a story about a dishonest manager who cleverly made friends before losing his job. Jesus said we should use money wisely to help others and prepare for heaven. Be faithful in small things. You cannot serve God and money at the same time. God sees our hearts.

Saul, a tall handsome Benjaminite, searches for lost donkeys. God directs Samuel to anoint him king. Samuel privately anoints Saul, gives confirming signs, and the Spirit comes upon him. Saul tells no one about the kingship.

Have you considered the way Jesus described being His disciple? Salvation is free to receive but will cost you everything to live it out. There is no such thing as cheap grace...only disciples who refused to pay the cost.

The people of Israel had turned away from God. Samuel told them to return to God with all their hearts, throw away their idols, and serve only Him.

When they did, God helped them win a big battle against their enemies. They set up a special stone called “Ebenezer” to remember that God helped them.

Later, the people demanded a king like other nations. God warned them it was a mistake, but they still wanted one. Sometimes getting what we want is not a good thing.

**Pentecost 2026 Sermon Summary**

This Pentecost message connects the Old Testament feasts to Jesus’ work: Passover (His death), First Fruits (His resurrection), and the Feast of Weeks/Pentecost (the coming of the Holy Spirit and the beginning of the Church harvest).

In Luke 14:12-24, Jesus teaches true hospitality and humility at a Pharisee’s dinner. Instead of inviting people who can repay you, invite the poor, crippled, lame, and blind — you will be rewarded at the resurrection.

The Parable of the Great Banquet shows many reject God’s invitation with lame excuses, so the invitation goes to outsiders. Jesus warns that the originally invited (Israel) will miss the kingdom while others fill the house.

Key: Serve without expecting repayment, and examine your heart for eternity.
