In 1988, young journalist Lyse Doucet walked through the doors of Kabul's Intercontinental Hotel on her first visit to Afghanistan. 

Little did she know, she'd stay for a year and keep returning over the following decades to report on the country and its people.

Now the BBC's Chief International correspondent has written a book about the fortress-like Intercontinental perched high on a hill over the Afghan capital.
