In this episode, we discuss the positives and negatives of fasting.
Fasting is certainly a 'hot topic' in the weight loss world and many people use it to drop kilos fast. Others may use fasting for spiritual or cultural reasons, and some people use fasting in the hope it will improve longevity! As with all diet-related topics, it's never black and white. So, listen to this episode if you want to learn more about fasting.
It is also "Weird Wednesday".. so stick around for a confession at the end of something weird we may do or have done in the past!!
In this episode, Jessica opens up about her experience with disordered eating. During high school, Jessica jumped on Google to find some answers about how to lose weight and be healthier. This led Jessica down a well-intended path of eating less and moving more. However, somewhere along the way, things became toxic. Jessica describes how disordered eating behaviours started taking over her body and mind. The girl that started on a simple quest to lose weight and be healthy was not the same girl that came out the other side. Interestingly, Jessica had always wanted to become a dietitian, despite her own challenges with food and weight. Now, Jessica is a practising dietitian who helps individuals all over Australia improve their relationship with food, find their healthy weight, and eat in a way that supports any chronic health conditions they may have. In this episode, Jessica provides interesting insights into what it’s like to navigate your relationship with food while suffering from other overlapping chronic health conditions.
In this episode, Zoe opens up about her experience battling 3 different eating disorders which took over her teenage years and adolescence. What started as a healthy intention to join the gym quickly spiralled out of control into a serious mental illness. Zoe talks us through some of the consequences of toxic diet culture and body shaming. She opens up about what it really feels like being stuck at rock bottom, and how she found a way out after so many years of struggling with multiple eating disorders.
WARNING: This episode has a trigger warning as we talk in depth about eating disorders, disordered eating behaviours, excessive exercise, self harm and suicidal behaviour. Please only listen to this if you are ready to do so.
