  • Episode 155: TikTok Death Talk and Consistency

I am beginning a fun project on TikTok where everyday I will read the choices for the next chapter in Try Not to Die: At Grandma's House and Derek will tell you how your terrible decision got you killed.

I will be running these videos on TikTok where I'm just getting started. It would be amazing if you came over and connected with me. I'm at authormarktullius

(1:30) I go over the new pricing strategy. All stand-alone ebooks are $3.99 and under, while Brightside and TNTD: At Grandma's House will remain at $0.99 for all of April.

    (3:30) I answer reader questions.

    April Stapleton asked:

    1. Why do you read at a first graders speed?
  • If you could interview 1 person in history, whom would choose?
  • Paul Young asked:

    1. If you were offered the movie or TV series rights, would you take them, Also as you write your works, do you envisage them ever being on the silver screen or several seasons on Netflix. I for one, would be hooked.

(9:05) Consistency has been the key for working out, eating better, and writing.

(12:15) I review Jailbroke, a novella by Brian Asman.

(14:30) I narrate two scenes from Try Not to Die: At Grandma's House

Ain't No Messiah is free on Kindle through March 27

(2:45) We had a great time at the Trinity of Terror concert and I think hypnosis had something to do with me being more relaxed.

(6:05) It was a struggle getting in my workouts this week but I did a better job with my food choices thanks to counting calories.

(7:55) I answer Emily Haynes' questions about drawing on real life incidents for writing and if I've ever stopped writing due to it being too intense.

(10:00) I answer Alvin Pateres' questions about curse words.

(14:00) I'm looking forward to talking with an agent next week about the Try Not to Die series.

  • Episode 153: Confession of a Homophobe

Looking forward to tonight's Ice Nine Kills' concert at the Hollywood Palladium.

(3:50) A talk with my pool contractor has me remotivated about sharing TBI or CTE. It also made me realize that I need help with my career and need to find the perfect agent.

(8:30) I answer reader questions. The first is from Emily Haynes: "Did you think you could be hypnotized?"

(10:10) Paul Young asked: "After each hypnosis session ends, how do you feel, both physically and mentally?"

(12:10) I'm trying to decide on whether to release extreme/explicit editions of the Try Not to Die books but believe I will do them under a different series title if at all.

(14:30) Paul's second question is in regard to the extreme edition: "as well as normal straight sex, would you consider a gay couple in one of your stories?"

(16:00) The question leads me to my Confession of a Homophobe, a blog piece I wrote 9 years ago.

(19:50) I narrate two scenes from Try Not to Die: At Grandma's House

  • Episode 152: Resolving Anger, Ralston, and Reader Questions
It's been another positive and productive week.
TBI or CTE audiobook was just released through Findaway and will be $5.99 for the reminder of the month.
A reminder that 25 Perfect Days is free through March 12. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01ERVHWI0
I answer reader questions: the first three are from EMily Haynes. She asked:
(2:45) 1) Will there be another short story collection?
     - Not for a while. I need to concentrate on Dethfest.
(4:50) 2) Is there a genre of books you do not like to read?
     - Romance/erotica unless there are pictures.
(6:10) 3) Do you think you and Duncan Ralston could write a Try Not to Die?
     - Yes. We just signed a contract and can't wait to get started.
(8:30) Paul Young asked about joint authors working together. How does putting it all together work .Do you have heated exchanges if things don't go to plan.
     - No heated exchanges yet and no forseeable ones in the future.
(10:40) Alvin Pateres asked "I've heard from your podcast that when you wrote horror before, where you draw the "darkness" from was all of your negative experiences. As an artist, would you say that you need to go back into that source to feel the same emotions you felt when you wrote those horror stories? Do you have to go to a dark place when you write horror?"
     - I do go to a place of pain for horror pieces and I'm a little concerned hypnosis might ruin that for me.
(14:40) I narrate the next section from Try Not to Die: At Grandma's House.

  • Episode 151:Hypnosis to Correct Being Hard-Wired for Violence
Another week of yoga and weightlifting has me feeling great going into the weekend.
On Wednesday I had the pleasure of being on the Poldolskiy Method podcast talking about TBI and CTE and what to watch for with our children, especially those that play sports. You can listen to the episode here: https://apple.co/3CcU4eG
(2:50) Work on Dethfest was slower than I had wanted but it made me rethink my idea of progress.
(4:40) I just listened to the TBI or CTE audiobook and was blown away by the narrator. He did such a fantastic job and I'm very grateful I decided not to narrate it myself.
(5:55) A reminder that Twisted Reunion is free until March 6 on Kindle and the audiobook is discounted on Apple and Chirp until March 7.

"What was your profession before becoming a famous author?"
(15:40) I am about to begin a 12-week hypnosis program with Alexandra Callner (my guest on episode 122). This will be an attempt to override me being hard-wired for violence and reacting negatively to perceived threats. It should help with self-esteem issues and my definition of what a man should be.

  • Episode 150: Making Dethfest More Metal
Another great week staying consistent with working out.

(2:55) I asked my buddy Mcor (check him out on Episode 82) if he wouldn't mind asking Jose Mangin from Sirius XM Liquid Metal if he'd be up for making an appearance in my book. • Episode 149: Focusing on Dethfest
Another week has passed with plenty of positives to keep me motivated and moving in a good direction.
Instead of focusing on the negatives of the past week, there were so many positives. One of the big ones is jumping back into Try Not to Die: At Dethfest. I had a great talk with my coauthor Glenn Hedden about it and we plan on dedicating the next few months to finishing it up. Metalheads are in for a treat with this book.
Currently Try Not to Die in the Pandemic is free Feb 17-21.
TNTD: In the Wizard's Tower will be free Feb. 23-27.
I was glad to see the Morsels of Mayhem audiobook is already available on Amazon and Audible and I just hired a narrator to record the German version.
The kindle German version of Twisted Reunion also comes out next week.
(7:05) This week's questions are from Kim Rae Bruder. I answer:
What made you decide to start writing?
How did it feel when you first got published?
(11:15) I narrate the next section from Try Not to Die: At Grandma's House.

  • Episode 148: Puppets, Podcasts, Pot and Procrastination
It's been another good week of weightlifting and yoga even though I had to force myself to do every session. It was a good reminder to push myself to do the things that will make me feel better overall.
This week I also realized how lucky I am to be able to pick up my kids from school everyday. I'm also grateful for my wife who does an awesome job of greeting us every time we return home.
Progress has been made on TNTD: Back at Grandma's House and Caitlin Marceau, my coauthor of TNTD: At Summer Camp, had a great talk about her TNTD and how she can help me develop the board game. Caitlin has her first collection coming out next month which I pre-ordered. For more info and to pre-order check out the link at the bottom of the newsletter.
The Morsels of Mayhem audiobook has passed Findaway's review process and should be at retailers in two weeks. And this weekend I will be hiring the narrator for the German edition of the audiobook Gruselige Leckerbissen.

  • Episode 147: Answering Readers’ Questions and Another Quick Contest
Another week of weightlifting and yoga has me feeling great and being productive. A lot of developments in the Try Not to Die universe that I'm excited about. It's not official yet but it appears that TNTD: At Summer Camp that I'm coauthoring with Caitlin Marceau and the novella Try Not to Die: Back at Grandma's House that I'll be coauthoring with Anthony Szpak are the next two books coming out. I'm also excited to finally be releasing the Morsels of Mayhem audiobook next week.

  • Episode 146: Creating a Cool Contest for TNTD: Back at Grandma’s House
It has been a fantastic week. My morning yoga/weightlifting routines have been awesome and I completed a 7-day cleanse that reminded me off the daily healthy choices I've been making.

On the business side of things, TBI or CTE, Try Not to Die: At Grandma's House, and Brightside, all had a lot of free downloads. For those of you who don't have a kindle but want to read my books for free, I recommend you check out the Kindle Cloud Reader.

It also felt incredible to finally be able to write again. My creative side has been struggling so I was very excited when Try Not to Die: Back at Grandma's House revealed itself to me. I'm now having a lot of fun with this and hope to be finished in a month.

I haven't figured out the prizes, launch date, or the manner in which I'll run the contest, but I am putting together a fun one based around Back at GH. There will only be one prize as I want it to be something very meaningful to the reader that wins.

(8:55) I read from TNTD: At Grandma's House if you choose to save your Mom.
(14:10) I narrate the scene where you listen to your mom and wait in the back.
