The first round vote of the French presidential election was held on Sunday. Entering the weekend the race was in a virtual four-way tie. Investors have watched the French election closely, concerned that a second round win by Le Pen could raise the possibility of a French exit (or “Frexit“) from the euro. We view the first-round results today as a market positive. Although Le Pen has made it through to the second round, current polls suggest that Macron will become the next French president.
