The Video Monsters are joined by Travis Knight – illustrator, designer, art director for the Chattanooga Film Festival, and NOT the director of BUMBLEBEE – to discuss the very first Stephen King TV miniseries, SALEM’S LOT (1979), directed by the legendary Tobe Hooper! We also brought on Corey Simpson to fill in for Eric and Dan, who were conspicuously absent after visiting an antique furniture store… oh well, probably nothing to worry about. So grab your popsicle stick crucifix, lock the windows, and meet us at the Marsten house to open the coffin lid on SALEM’S LOT with special guest Travis Knight!

He tells us all about what it was like on set and shares a heart-warming story about director Mike Flanagan that proves to all us Flana-fans why Mike is the absolute best. Filmmaker Robert Woods (AN IDEAL HOST) bundles up with the Video Monsters to discuss the absolute bugnuts insanity of one of the more infamously loathed Stephen King adaptations, Lawrence Kasdan’s DREAMCATCHER (2003)! Where to begin with this one… look, it’s a $70 million prestige genre picture, it stars Morgan Freeman, and it’s about aliens that explode out of your butt. What more do I need to say? It’s one of the weirdest, wildest movies to ever come out of the studio system and it’s a miracle that it exists. The kind of movie where everything went wrong… and oh-so right. So grab a toothpick, flush that sh-t weasel down the toilet, and meet us in the Memory Warehouse because, Scooby-Dooby-Doo, we’ve got some work to do now in our review of DREAMCATCHER with special guest Robert Woods!

Filmmaker/Podcaster Bill Fulkerson (OTC Industries - Outside the Cinema podcast, SURVIVAL OF THE FILM FREAKS, SAFER SPACES) returns to share a byline with the Video Monsters and chat about about one of the most severely underappreciated Stephen King adaptations, THE NIGHT FLIER (1997)! Filmmaker Anthony Cousins (SCARE PACKAGE, EVERYTIME WE MEET FOR ICE CREAM YOUR WHOLE FUCKING FACE EXPLODES, and the upcoming SCARE PACKAGE II: RAD CHAD’S REVENGE) joins the Video Monsters to discuss what we believe is one of the most undervalued entries in the Stephen King film canon, David Cronenberg’s THE DEAD ZONE (1983). The film notably eschews the overt body horror that Cronenberg was known for at the time to tell a cold, melancholy tale of a lonely man – played with brilliant subtlety by the legendary Christopher Walken – cursed with the gift of premonition. And yet, it may secretly be one of the most horrifying body horror films ever made…. just without all the blood and guts. So grab your cane, put on your peacoat, flip up the collar, look at yourself in the mirror, and slowly come to terms with the fact that none of us can ever be as cool as Christopher Walken. Then come break the ice with us as we discuss THE DEAD ZONE with special guest Anthony Cousins!

Theodore Schaefer (director, co-writer, producer for GIVING BIRTH TO A BUTTERFLY) joins the Video Monsters to discuss the Stephen King film that started it all, Brian De Palma’s CARRIE (1976)! It’s been noted often, including by King himself, that the surprise success of this film is the reason why King rocketed into superstardom. CARRIE is often cited as not only one of the greatest King adaptations, but one of the most iconic and influential horror films of all time. But how does it hold up today? Is this film actually a comedy? Is Carrie a supporting character in her own movie? Was Carrie’s mom right all along about her daughter being corrupted by the devil?! We leave no stone unturned with this one. Writer/Director Douglas Wicker (WHAT HAPPENED TO THE OTHERS) joins the Video Monsters to discuss an enjoyably kooky Stephen King adaptation that can best be described as, “what if JAWS, but werewolf?” Tonight we’re sinking our teeth into SILVER BULLET (1985), based on King’s calendar-inspired novelette (whatever that is) “Cycle of the Werewolf!” Featuring a lovable but characteristically batty Gary Busey performance and Corey Haim as a parapalegic boy with a motorized wheelchair that can reach speeds up to 60 miles per hour, it’s safe to say that SILVER BULLET isn’t your typical creature feature. So reel in your kite, grab The Peacemaker, and meet us in the foggy woods of Tarker’s Mill for an in-depth examination of SILVER BULLET with special guest Douglas Wicker!

The made-for-TV short story adaptation that features the most fearsome recurring foe across all of King’s work: 50s GREASERS! So wipe the dust out of your eye, grab your rabbit’s foot keyring, and take a shortcut through the train tunnel on your way to our analysis of SOMETIMES THEY COME BACK with special guest Kyle Kuchta!

Writer/Director Wolfe MacReady checks into the Overlook Hotel with the Video Monsters to passionately defend the oft-maligned ABC television miniseries version of THE SHINING (1997), directed by Mick Garris and written by King himself. The series is clearly a product of its time and suffers from the limitations of 90s network television but – despite its shortcomings – it is an earnest, emotional work with moving performances that faithfully (sometimes a little TOO faithfully) adapts the more personal elements of the novel that were omitted from the Stanley Kubrick film. So take your medicine, trim the topiary, grab your croquet mallet, and meet us in Room 217 as we… wait, hold on. You passed it... No, it’s 217, not 237. You’ve gone too far. Turn back around and… yeah. There you go. OK, great. Where was I? Oh, right. Now that we’re all here, it’s time to haunt the halls of THE SHINING with special guest, Wolfe MacReady!
