Vidiots Video Store Show

Beat the heat with two snowbound classics from the mind of Stephen King! This week we're talking about David Cronenberg's THE DEAD ZONE, and Rob Reiner's MISERY, along with WIND RIVER, LOGAN LUCKY, the 40th anniversary re-release of CLOSE ENCOUNTERS, and more. Plus: Ryan vents about FANTASTIC BEASTS and we swap stories about broken A/C in movie theaters.

Recorded in Santa Monica, California.

And now, the epic conclusion! Disney is the topic dujour in this mondo-sized episode, culminating in Dane's secret surprise Disney-themed segment, but we also fan-cast a new version of Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolff? , discuss our earliest must-see television shows, and go deep on Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and The Hunchback of Notre Dame.

This is a big one. Longtime listener Dane McDonald and host emeritus Darren Franich join Clay and Ryan on the stage of the Aero theater to talk TITANIC, PIRATES 5, COLUMBUS, DUNKIRK, THE LAST ACTION HERO, HOOK, ATOMIC BLONDE, Darren's defense of SOMEWHERE, and much, much, more.

Next week: Dane & Darren (Part 2)!

We discuss early works from two masters that we lost last week, Sam Shepard in DAYS OF HEAVEN and Jeanne Moreau in ELEVATOR TO THE GALLOWS. Also: Ryan has been watching the Harry Potter films and Clay sorta recommends Amazon's The Last Tycoon.

In Washington D.C., the more things change the more they stay the same. This week, we discuss two D.C.-set films with a surprising number of similarities, Otto Preminger's ADVISE AND CONSENT (1962) and Roger Donaldson's NO WAY OUT (1987). Also: Ryan sees Jenny Slate in LANDLINE and Clay finally sees THE BIG SICK!

To commemorate what would have been the 50th birthday of Philip Seymour Hoffman, we revisit two of his most incredible performances, in two very challenging films: Charlie Kaufman's SYNECDOCHE, NEW YORK and Paul Thomas Anderson's THE MASTER.

It's well after dark at disappointingly un-haunted Aero theatre and we're talking about two first films about fighting families: Jeff Nichols' SHOTGUN STORIES and Trey Edward Shults' KRISHA. But first: GREEN ROOM, TAKE ME, and THE FOUNDER!

At the midpoint of 2017, Clay and Ryan talk about two unique new releases that are among the most acclaimed films of 2017 thus far, Bong-Joon Ho's OKJA and Olivier Assayas' PERSONAL SHOPPER.

Fellow Vidiots Clerk Emeritus Angela Matano joins the guys to explore the filmography of THE BEGUILED director Sofia Coppola. But first, we've been watching HEART OF A DOG, UNLAWFUL ENTRY, DON'T LOOK BACK, and episode 8 of the new TWIN PEAKS!

David Lynch super fan Steve Berg (NBC's The Good Place, Comedy Central's Idiotsitter) joins Clay and Ryan to explore the depths of the filmography of one of cinema's most inscrutable auteurs (25:00-end). But first the group gives their opinions on the big Han Solo dust up and Daniel Day-Lewis' retirement from the screen (0:00-25:00).
