As we celebrate all the Saints, we are also invited to remember that we are called children of God right now, and we have a higher destiny: to be saints. May we run well in enter that enter in to the cheers of the great cloud of witnesses.

Jesus answers a theologically debated question about the greatest of all the commandments, and in doing so, shows love is the law in a word. But is love what we think it is, of something more?

The Herodians and Pharisees join an unlikely alliance to trap Jesus by asking about the the legality of paying a census tax to Rome. He brilliantly addresses the issue, and sets a standard for a much wider principle - give what is proper.

Jesus tells a parable of the wedding feast, but many originally invited reject the invitation, and even one who comes is not properly clothed and is cast out. What does this say about the invitation to God's kingdom and what we need to do to accept and be properly clothed?

Jesus tells the parable of the vineyard where the tenants do not give the master what is his due, and in doing so challenges the chief priests and elders to consider if they are bringing the harvest. As we mark Respect Life Sunday, we are invited to ask the same.

Our Lord challenges the Chief Priests and scribes of their self-righteousness by telling a parable of two sons who are asked to respond to their father's will - only the one who does what the father desires is responding to the will. So it is for us: we must do the will of God, which is often a next best step.

Jesus shares a parable of a landowner who invites workers to his vineyard at various times of the day. When it comes to paying each, he starts with those who worked the shortest, and pays them the usual daily wage, and those who worked all day grumbled. The Master for just, but he may not have been fair. That's the point. God gives us what we truly need, Himself.

After St. Peter asked how often he should forgive, our Lord tells a parable about a wicked debtor who owes and impossibly large amount (100,000,000 days wages) who begs for patience, but refuses to forgive the smaller debt (100 days wages) owed him. The King does not, as a result forgive the debt. The message is clear - release the debt.

Jesus Christ speaks of His death and resurrection, and St. Peter objects, possibly because he had no understanding on the kind of Messiah that Jesus was to be. He had to surrender to the will of God, and so do we.
