This episode of The Viewless Wings Poetry Podcast features a reading of the poem "by the ocean" and analysis of the poem by the author.

"The pandemic inspired the first section of my book and this poem captured most acutely the heightened level of stress I was experiencing in the spring of 2020. At the time I was struggling to find a full night's sleep, obsessed with the news coverage and the extraordinary uncertainty of the time." - James Morehead

Chapter 1 of The Viewless Wings Podcast features a reading of the poem "canvas" and analysis of the poem by the author.

"Unlike most of my poems, canvas fell out of me 80 percent complete in a stream of conscience one morning last year. I woke up with the idea, grabbed my phone, and just started writing. It felt like a good baseball swing - effortless - I wasn't thinking, just swinging words into Google Docs. That has only happened one other time - a poem from years ago I'll get to in a future episode." - James Morehead

James Morehead, Poet Laureate of Dublin, California and author of canvas, introduces The Viewless Wings Poetry Podcast.

Where does a poem come from? How does an image, a sound, an emotion, an experience, the spark of an idea become a poem? The Viewless Wings Poetry Podcast will explore the art of poetry and business of self-publishing, in short bursts, each episode less than ten minutes. I'll explore the origin story of poems from my debut book "canvas", share my experience in the complex world of self-publishing, and interview fellow poets. Subscribe to The Viewless Wings Poetry Podcast to join me on this journey.
