During the cold winter months, it is nice to light an indoor fireplace for extra warmth or to have the occasional binnebraai. The downside is that you may be inhaling tiny solid or liquid substances that could be harmful to your health. In a new study published in Energy Research & Social Science, a group of researchers from the Faculty of Engineering at Stellenbosch University (SU) found that using an indoor fireplace can result in the release of harmful particles that can be dispersed in the air and cause health problems when inhaled. South African theatre icon Andrew Buckland returns to The Baxter with his classic hit production, The Ugly Noo Noo, for a limited season from 23 July to 10 August 2024 at 7.30pm with matinees on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 11am and Saturdays at 2.30pm.In 1988, Buckland wrote and performed in the one man play, directed by his wife, Janet Buckland, which changed the face of South African theatre. From the day of its opening at the Market Theatre in Johannesburg, it was acclaimed as a ‘masterpiece of comic physical performance’ and ‘an exceptional piece of political theatre’.

A parking lot in Muizenberg has been suggested as the site of the City of Cape Town’s new Safe Space shelter. The 1,141 square metre property is located in Sidmouth Road, close to the popular Surfers’ Corner beach, restaurants and surf stores.The shelter, which will be run in partnership with welfare organisation U-turn, will have at least 60 beds.Simon Roberts- Muizenberg Improvement District
