Welcome to Views From the World Tree. Today’s episode will be live on Dec 19th, which is almost the shortest day of the year. For months now we’ve been huddling in our homes around the fire for longer each day, sustained by the warmth of our hearth and our harvest from this year’s crops. On one day soon though, the light will start to linger a little longer than before. On Tuesday night, people all over the northern hemisphere will begin to take comfort in the knowledge that from that night onward, days will grow longer and the sun will start to return, bringing daylight, warmth, and crops. Historically this was cause for great a celebration held on or about the winter solstice, called Yule.
