1 Peter is written to Christians who have very little social standing in society for the purpose of encouraging them to live a life that testifies to King Jesus. So Peter advises things that seem foreign to our experience as Christians in America in 2023, such as slaves submitting to masters. Is there anything we can learn from that? Today, Derek talks about that.

We live storied lives. Those stories shape how we see the world, and therefore, how we show up in the world. Today Evan talks about how Peter imparts a new story to help the Gentiles live as strangers in a strange land, and how the story can help us today.

First Peter is a letter written to Jesus' followers who are far from their home. They are experiencing persecution, confusion, vulnerability, and weariness in a foreign land. Peter writes to encourage them. Because of their faith in Jesus, their home is with God. They are now exiled from their true home, but chosen through Christ to represent and usher in His kingdom here. Discomfort with the ways of the world is to be expected. Today, Jeri begins our summer series, "Strangers in a Foreign Land," as we explore how we as Jesus followers can live well in a world that is not our home.
