No one could have possibly imagined nursing school to be what it is right now yet here we are.  Gabby gives us a glimpse of nursing school in 2020, and what it looks like to remain flexible while managing life as a student. We are literally living out the virtual reality that only seemed to be a part of our imagination in times passed.

Nursing students right now offer so much to both seasoned nurses and other fellow nursing students alike. 2020 has been deemed the Year of the Nurse so we are going to chat it up with our future nurses over the next two weeks. Nursing for a long time has been considered to be one of the most trusted professions and continue to be a huge part of healthcare. Along with being the year of the nurse, 2020 has made it particularly challenging for our future nurses.

With the sudden onset of COVID-19, some of our seasoned nurses decided to make a career shift and leave the bedside. While nursing students began second-guessing their decision to continue with their pursuit to work within the field.

During my travel nursing assignments in Southern California, I had the pleasure to work side by side with Lucy, a student nurse that is seamlessly crushing nursing school while working full time. No one could have possibly imagined the transition to virtual clinicals yet here we are.

Lucy shares what nursing school looks like in 2020. What it looks like to remain flexible while managing life as a student—a concept that is not only needed while in nursing school but is crucial to working on the floor.  She is plowing through the program like a boss. She has provided much insight on how to remain focused.

You are in for a treat today—I have Lena for today’s #vintagetralk. Lena is a boss within her own right. She runs both an event planning company known as Above-N-Beyond Balloons & Events and a photography business—both their own separate entities.

Most of my listeners are women. Some aspiring to one day have a family while pursuing the goal of working full time, part time, creating a business or a combination of all of those things. Knowing that, I made it my mission to have a variety of women talk about their experiences while managing all of those things.

The common question we ask ourselves is whether or not it is possible to “have it all” and honestly, I believe the answer to that is it depends on what "having it all" means to you. What defines having it all changes depending on what season you’re in. It will evolve with time.

Having those check-ins with yourself often helps you to keep a pulse of what your needs, wants, and desires are.

Finding that sweet spot within your nursing career is key to experiencing longevity and avoiding burnout. But what does that sweet spot look like? Creating a good work-life balance.
