"Pwede ba akong maging freelancer kahit di nakapagtapos ng college?"

And if you’re like others who prefer to be their own boss AND work anytime & anywhere they want...

  • How Did She Level Up Her Life and Career Without A College Degree?

I’m not sure if you’d agree with me.

But I believe we grew up in a society with this kind of mindset.

"Kailangan magtapos ka ng pag-aaral, makagraduate ng college, para makakuha ka ng magandang trabaho."

If you’re a believer of this, I want you to meet Monica.

"Gusto ko din po i prove sa sarili ko na kaya ko, na may future ako kahit di ako nakapag college. Isa po kasi yan na hindrance ko nung nag apply ako ng work when I was still in Philippines, hindi ako college level kaya may mga company na yaw ako tanggapin."

(See Jason, kailangan talaga graduate ka para matanggap ka sa company na gusto mo.)

Well, that’s how it is in the corporate world.

    But not in freelancing.

Because Monica’s life changed since she started as a freelancer.

Find out how she did it tomorrow in our JasSuccess at 2:30 pm.

    See you there, okay?

  • What You Need to Know About Taxes and Government Contributions (Now That You Are A Freelancer)

The word TAX rhymes with fax, lax, and sax. They also sometimes rhyme with large, burdensome, painful, and necessary. Not really, but you get what we mean! So allow us to present to you....

The Top 5 Reasons Why You Should NOT Pay Taxes:

    1.

    2.

    3.

    4.

    5.

OK, we all know the subject of tax is not a laughing matter. When you decide to pay (or not to pay) taxes, it has serious implications on you and your freelancing business. That is why time and again, we at the FLIP and VA Bootcamp team have done our best to provide information and resources that can help Pinoy freelancers solve their tax problems.

Just to be crystal clear, we are encouraging every Filipino freelancer to pay taxes because:

    1. It’s our legal obligation to do so.
    2. It helps in the socio-economic development of the country.
    3. It makes you eligible for loans and payment plans that usually require proof of a solid financial background

So if you are currently transitioning from a corporate job, now is the best time to discuss your tax questions. Lucky for you, we have an upcoming FLIP Chat & Chill LIVE session where we hope to shed light on some confusion you may have about taxes and government contributions. This is great for both experienced and new freelancers, especially if you’ll be doing your taxes for the first time this year.

Don’t forget, the date is March 9th. The time is 5 PM.

Let’s chat and chill about "What You Need to Know About Taxes and Government Contributions (Now That You Are A Freelancer)"

  • Important Marketable Skills For Both Corporate Employees and Online Freelancers

“You don’t hire for skills, you hire for attitude. You can always teach skills.” - Simon Sinek

So I guess, the question we all need to be asking is, what skills can I add to my profile so I can attract employers and clients?

Tech skills are great, especially if you are an online freelancer. If you know how computers and the internet work, you can start with that. Basic stuff like word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation also essential. Eventually, you can level up and learning digital marketing fundamentals before you decide to niche down on one particular skill.

But there are certain skills that you can also learn to help you thrive in any work environment. Whether you are still working in the corporate world or managing your own freelancing business, these skills will prove valuable:

    1. Communication

Comm skills are very important, especially writing. The digital age has transformed how businesses communicate with consumers, vendors, and partners. What should written business communication look like? It must be professional, clear and concise. Good thing, this skill is something you can learn. Become a master communicator and you will see your career grow in no time.

    2. Adaptability

Change is the only constant thing in the world, including the workplace. When a worker can be flexible and have the ability to adapt to changing work conditions, he or she can be an asset to the client/company. What does it mean to be adaptable and how can you develop this trait?

    3. Problem Solving

Another marketable skill that is really nice to have is problem-solving. The way you see the world and observe what’s happening around you is crucial if you want to make an impact. Successful people know how to identify and understand problems when they arise (or even before they do). Not only that, they are also good at attacking the problem with both traditional and out-of-the-box methods. If you consider yourself a good problem solver, cheer up! That’s something your potential client would love to hear about you!

Curious to learn more? Join our FLIP Chat & Chill Facebook LIVE session this Monday, March 16 at 5 PM. We’d love to hear your questions and stories so we can learn from each other while having a really good time. And yes, snacks are allowed :-)

  • "Freelancing Gave Me A Chance to Dream Big Despite My Age"

What do the following people have in common?

    Colonel Sanders

    Vera Wang

    Samuel L. Jackson

    Julia Child

You might say they are/were highly successful people. That’s true.

What’s also true is that they only became highly successful later in life.

Author C. S Lewis once said, "You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream."

Most people would agree to this, perhaps including yourself. But just like any popular saying and words of wisdom, it may tickle your ear, but it’s often easier said than done.

When you are a full-time mom of three with no yaya, it’s hard to imagine pursuing a career in the corporate world. Of course, family comes first. Sad, noh?

Well, thanks to online freelancing, stay at home moms now have an option to reach their financial goals without sacrificing time for their families. Yes, it’s OK to dream again!

    Just like Jerika.

She used to work as an accounting assistant and bookkeeper but when she got married and had kids, she and her husband decided that she’d have to stay at home to take care of their growing family. She’s been a full-time mom since 2006.

One day, her uncle and niece shared with her the concept of online freelancing. It gave her hope and it drove her to take action. She spent her free time studying how to get started and eventually landed her first job. She also became a FLIP moderator and this helped her get a 2nd client.

"I’m earning money but I still have time to take care of my kids and pursue other activities that interest me. Freelancing gave me the chance to dream big despite my age. Kasi naisip ko noon hindi na talaga ako magkakawork pa kasi wala talagang magbabantay ng kids ko. I was 34 when I got pregnant with my 3rd child. After more than a decade of being a full-time mom, now I have a chance to help my clients with their business and it feels good."

Can you relate to Jerika’s story? Do you want to hear the rest of it?

This Wednesday she will be guesting in our weekly inspirational JasSuccess Interview.

Mark your calendar because this March 18 at 5:30 PM she will be telling her story LIVE on Facebook. Share this with other full-time moms in your circle so they, too can dream big again through online freelancing.

  • "I Can Save More Money Because I’m Working From Home"

What’s more scary than Judith, Bill, and Juna?

    It’s Nana...

    .

    .

    .

    Nana Ipon.

Okay, okay.... I know you might think the joke is "waley."

But I hope that when it comes to your ipon or savings, you’re "havey."

So, pano nga ba maiwasan si Nana? What can you do to have more "ipon?"

There are two basic things that you can do to increase your savings:

    1. Earn more.
    2. Spend less.

It may sound too simplistic, but if you think long and hard about it, it makes a lot of sense. Unfortunately, for a lot of Pinoys, "simple" is not always as easy as it sounds.

We know there are many factors that affect one’s ability to achieve their financial goals such as mindset, beliefs, environment, etc. If you’ve done your homework and tried your best, but you feel like you’re still not saving enough despite having a "stable job," and budgeting your hard-earned money, maybe it’s time you consider online freelancing.

As mentioned above, freelancing can help you earn more and spend less.

    1. You can earn more as a freelancer. As long as you have skills to offer and you know how to market your services, you can earn double, triple, or even higher than what you are currently earning as an employee.

    2. You spend less on transportation, clothing, and food because you can work at home, wear anything, and eat anything. Aside from avoiding pollution and accidents, you have more time for rest, recreation and exercise. This equates to less stress and better health, so you spend less on hospital bills and other medical expenses.

Do you see where this is going? Do you see the hope that somehow, freelancing can help you end your financial struggles? Could it be that freelancing is the answer to your prayers?

We asked Marco, one of our VA Bootcamp graduates, "What’s the best thing about being a freelancer?"

His response was, "The freedom! Flexible work schedule. No TRAFFIC! Mas matipid-iwas gastos, iwas tempation! No office politics and office gossip, I’m my own boss! Mas nakakaipon ako ngayon."

If you want to learn more about his story, come join us this Wednesday, March 11 at 10:30 AM. He’s going to share with us his exciting and sometimes challenging journey from the corporate world to online freelancing.

For those who will watch and share this #JasSuccess LIVE interview, he will give away a FREEBIE:

"How to Cure "Shiny Object Syndrome" of Freelancers" so don’t miss it!
