On August 6, 2020, the White House took the unusual step of banning certain transactions between American citizens and Chinese companies, not based on the overall nature of the companies, but on two of the applications they provide: TikTok and WeChat.
But while the prohibition on transactions with TikTok's parent company is broad and (relatively) easily understood, the prohibition on Tencent, owner of the WeChat application, is not.
And because Tencent also just happens to be the whole or partial owner of some of the most popular video games in the world (Fortnite, League of Legends, Clash of Clans, Valorant), well...that's why we have Virtual Legality.
