- Truth is not subjective — it is rooted in the person of Jesus Christ. Our culture offers many competing lenses for truth, including emotions, experiences, education, and ethnicity. But for the believer, truth is divinely revealed, firm, and unchanging. It conforms to the mind, will, word, and ways of God, and God Himself is truth.

- Truth and love are inseparable companions. John makes clear that truth must be delivered with grace, mercy, and peace. Head knowledge alone is not enough — truth must take root in the heart and be expressed through self-sacrificial love for God and for one another. We love people enough to tell them the truth, because the one who is truth pursued us first.

- Walking in truth is a daily, whole-life commitment. The Greek word for "walk" in this passage means to live. Remaining in truth is not a one-time decision but an ongoing lifestyle of loving God, loving people, speaking truth with right intent and impact, and keeping the commands we have been given from the beginning.

- Faith requires a "nevertheless" posture. When Peter had worked all night and caught nothing, he was exhausted and perhaps frustrated, yet he still obeyed Jesus. His response, "but if you say so," is a model for every believer who is tired, broken, or disappointed. Doubt does not have to remove obedience. When we trust Jesus in spite of our circumstances, He exceeds our expectations in ways our nets cannot contain.

- The church is sent to the unclean, not away from them. Jesus touched the man with leprosy at a time when the cultural and religious expectation was that contamination only traveled one way. Jesus reversed that entirely. In the same way, we were once unclean and could not cleanse ourselves. Because Jesus touched us, we are now sent to engage the world without indulging in it. Legalism measures righteousness by distance from sinners. The mission of God measures faithfulness by willingness to reach them.

- People are the mission. Whether it was a fisherman, a leper, a paralyzed man, a tax collector, or a room full of religious leaders, Jesus moved toward people consistently and intentionally. Levi's first instinct after following Jesus was to throw a dinner party and invite his friends. That same impulse should mark every believer. The mission is not a program or an event. It is a daily, Spirit-led commitment to the people God places in front of us.

- You are being formed by what you consume. Whether we recognize it or not, we are all being discipled by something -- culture, social media, fear, circumstances, or Christ. The question is not whether you are following someone; the question is who. As Pastor Dawayne reminded us, the key to getting people to follow you is convincing them they are not following anyone at all. Disciples of Jesus must be intentional about what they allow to shape them.

- A disciple is a disciplined learner with a devoted lifestyle who develops leaders. Discipleship is not merely an intellectual exercise -- it involves all of who you are. Just as Jesus responded to temptation by drawing on the Word of God, we must be students of Scripture so that we can be doers of the Word, not hearers only (James 1:22). The Word is our daily allergy pill in a diseased world. Take it consistently, and it will help you fight what the enemy throws at you.

- Discipleship requires denial, sacrifice, and an immediate response. Matthew 16:24 lays out the qualifications plainly: deny yourself, take up your cross, and follow Jesus. Peter and Andrew left their nets. James and John left their father. The question Sunday left us with is personal -- what are you willing to deny? What cross do you need to pick up? You may be the first disciple in your family, but you cannot help rescue others until you have been rescued yourself. Be One, Make One.

- Devotion is the foundation of real community. Community does not happen by accident. Acts 2:42 describes believers who were devoted — not merely interested — in one another. Pastor Pedro reminded us that devotion requires consistency, commitment, and a willingness to die to self. We live in a low-commitment culture, but the call of Scripture is to something deeper. As he stated, "Commitment vs. convenience: devotion is described as a Saturday night decision for a Sunday morning action of attending church."

- You cannot fully live the Christian life alone. From Genesis 2:18, where God declares that it is not good for man to be alone, to the fruit of the Spirit listed in Galatians 5:22-23, Scripture consistently points us toward one another. Not one fruit of the Spirit can be exercised in isolation. A disconnected Christian, as Pastor Pedro put it, is a disobedient Christian. The goal is that everybody should be known by somebody.

- We gather so that we can go. Biblical community is not about creating a comfortable Christian bubble. The early church learned together, ate together, prayed together, gave together, and served one another — and the Lord added to their number daily. At Vision, this same rhythm calls us outward into our city and beyond. We do not simply attend church; we are sent as the church into Raleigh and the nations.

- Evangelism provokes opposition, and we should expect it. Whether internal struggles like anxiety and self-doubt or external pressures from the world around us, the enemy does not sit still when the Gospel is being proclaimed. Expect resistance, but trust that God is working in and through it regardless of what the circumstances look like.

- Evangelism is empowered by the Holy Spirit and rooted in the exclusive truth of the Gospel. Peter and John were uneducated and untrained, yet they spoke with a boldness that silenced the religious elite. That same Spirit is available to every believer today. We do not share the Gospel in our own strength or wisdom, but from a heart filled and sustained by the Word of Christ, gratitude, and dependence on God.

- Evangelism flows out of relationship, both our relationship with Jesus and our relationships with the people around us. The religious leaders took note that Peter and John had been with Jesus. That recognition was the most powerful credential they carried. When we walk closely with Christ, it becomes impossible to stay silent about what we have seen and heard. Ask yourself this week: is there a person God has placed in your life who needs to hear about Jesus?

- The gospel rests on three non-negotiable pillars: the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. You cannot separate these truths. There is no cherry-picking with the gospel. All three must be affirmed to truly call Jesus Lord.

- Jesus cannot be Lord of your life if he does not have lordship over your interpretation of Scripture. In a world where new teachings spread rapidly through social media and culture, believers must be rooted in the Word and growing toward maturity, not tossed around by every wind of doctrine.

- Your story is a tool for God's glory. Every testimony shared over the past several weeks, and the gospel itself, reminds us that God wants to use what he has brought you through to draw others to his Son. Your job is simply to be bold enough to share it.

- The focus of our story should always be Jesus. Pastor Jones reminded us that the deliverance should never be greater than the one who delivers. When we share what God has done, our testimony is not about us — it is about Him. As Psalms 66:16 encourages, we are called to come and tell others what God has done for us, keeping Christ at the center of every account.

- Our thought tattoo for this message is a truth worth carrying with us daily: When we share the goodness of Jesus, God is faithful to reveal his power. Whether you are praying for a loved one to be saved, believing God for healing, or standing in the middle of what feels like everything falling apart, tell of his goodness. The Samaritan woman in John 4 left her water jar and went to tell her entire town, and many believed because of her testimony. Our story has that same power.

- Fear and rejection can keep us from receiving and sharing what Jesus has done. The townspeople who witnessed the miracle in Mark 5 responded with fear and begged Jesus to leave. We must ask ourselves the same hard questions Pastor Jones raised: Are we afraid to confront our own sin? Do we feel unworthy? Are we playing too close to the tomb? Our fears can paralyze us, but faith moves us forward — to the altar, to the Word, and to the people around us who need to hear what God has done.

- Condemnation cuts. When we use truth selectively, without humility, love, or any desire for restoration, we reduce people to their worst moments and treat them as disposable. We were challenged to examine where we may be tempted to use Scripture to validate ourselves rather than submit ourselves to God, and to put down whatever stone we may be holding toward someone else.

- Grace heals. Jesus refused the pace and the terms of the accusers. He created space for conscience to respond and for the woman to be seen as a person with a future rather than a problem to be eliminated. We were reminded that we have not been designed to match the world's dysfunction, and that grace slows the scene so that healing can begin.

- Truth transforms. Jesus told the woman in John 8:11 neither to remain under condemnation nor to remain in her sin. The gospel does not say our sin does not matter. It says our sin does not have to have the final word — if we are willing to submit it to the Word made flesh. Genuine repentance is more than feeling sorry. It accepts truth, accountability, and the time required to rebuild what sin has damaged.

- Self-reliance is a respectable sin we often overlook, convincing ourselves we're "good enough" when compared to others, yet falling woefully short when compared to God's holiness.

- Eternal life is not merely a destination but a relationship with Jesus that starts now—we will spend eternity getting to know God more deeply.

- Like Zacchaeus, we must acknowledge our sin, humble ourselves, and run toward Jesus rather than hide from Him, trusting in His righteousness instead of our own.

- Jesus finds us, Jesus heals us, and Jesus gives us a testimony to share. You don't have to clean yourself up before God reaches you. Like the blind beggar who never asked for help, God intervenes in our lives while we're still helpless, pursuing us in our brokenness rather than waiting for us to get it together first.

- Tell the whole story, not just the comfortable parts. When we edit our testimonies to avoid shame or embarrassment, we silently suggest we played a part in our own salvation. The complete truth of where God met us - in our rebellion, pain, and blindness - is what gives hope to others who are struggling in similar places.

- Fear of people will silence your witness, but faith in Jesus empowers it. The healed man's parents knew the truth but remained silent because they feared losing their social standing. We face the same choice daily: will we risk comfort and convenience to testify to God's goodness, or will we keep our mouths closed to protect our reputation?
