On today’s podcast we’re featuring portfolio manager Dan Dupont’s appearance at Fidelity Canada’s Vision 2023 event that was held recently in Toronto. Since joining Fidelity in 2001 as a research analyst, Dan has gone on to manage several mandates including: Fidelity NorthStar Fund - alongside Joel Tillinghast, Morgen Peck, Sam Chamovitz and Kyle Weaver, Fidelity Canadian Large Cap Fund - a value-oriented large cap strategy, and Fidelity Global Value Long/Short Fund - a value oriented all-cap strategy that features both long and shorting opportunities. Dan speaks with host Pat Bolland today, and reflects on a number of topics including how his investment style of aggressive patience faired during 2022 and throughout his overall tenure. Also, a look at how Canadian Large Cap Fund has captured less than half of the market downside during Dan’s tenure, what kinds of opportunities he looks for when shorting companies, and how macro narratives such as inflation and monetary policy could impact his positioning. Overall, Dan is constantly looking to build a portfolio of stable companies that aren’t as impacted by unpredictable macro developments and trading at cheap valuations in relation to the sustainable free cash flow they generate. Additionally, Dan and Pat field questions from the live audience. Please note, you will hear references to a few slides displayed to the in person audience.
