Welcome to issue 34 of the Holodeck. This week we make the announcement that the Holodeck is going monthly. As you know Sina & Michael record two podcasts per week and instead of allowing the quality of either show to suffer they have decided to release the Holodeck once a month.

However, the main show will now have an extended format where each month we will now have a dedicated IDW Ongoing review as well as reviews from the archives, our ongoing TAS review, interviews with those who shape Star Trek in comics and of course our “Off the Record” shows.

Also we are going to introduce “Holodeck Shorts”. These will be released in the middle of each month and will be a review show only, no news, no releases etc. Simply a mini show looking at a topic, miniseries etc. For the time being the “Holodeck Shorts” will be reviewing Malibu’s DS9 series.

Sina, Michael and Bunny are confident that you will like the changes in the show and we look forward to your feedback.

This month we start our new monthly format. In the IDW Ongoing segment we review Issues 18 & 19 which are Uhura’s & Scotty’s Tales. For this month's main show we continue our TAS review with a look at “One of our planets are missing”. We also look at your feedback, discuss the comic releases for June and Sina & Michael have quite a few laughs.

Our Thoughts: We both enjoyed the story but felt it was not as strong as the previous story about McCoy. We thought using the concept of hearing and listening and how that would shape Uhura’s life was interesting. The scenes of her Uncle falling into the atmosphere was well drawn and very emotive. Our scores: Story 4, Art 4.

Our Thoughts: Like Uhura’s tale this was not as strong as McCoy’s. We liked seeing some of the background to Scotty’s story but felt the idea that he was the only one who could fix the starship was somewhat contrived. The art was consistent and we both thoughts the art at the beginning was very good. Our scores: Story 4, Art 4.

This month we have a packed show for you as we continue our review of IDW’s Ongoing Star Trek by looking at issue 20: Sulu & Chekhov’s Tale and we begin our three part special series looking at Doctor Who Prisoners of Time written by friends of the show Scott and David Tipton.

Our Thoughts: We were both very disappointed with this issue. We both felt that Sulu & Chekov were dealt unfairly by sharing an issue together. The stories were weak and you could have done something different with these. The art was good but some of the likenesses were poor.

Our Thoughts: We both enjoyed the story but while Michael felt this was a good entry point for those coming into Doctor Who; Sina was not convinced. The story does move at a good pace and we are left with a lot of unanswered questions. The art was good but we felt the likenesses of the Doctor were not consistent.

Our Thoughts: We really enjoyed this issue. We both liked the way the Tiptons captured the essence of the second Doctor and the story was interesting. Again we were left with questions. The art really improved with this issue and there were some great details in the “mall” and throughout the story.

Our Thoughts: This was a great issue. The story moved at a great pace, we had loads of action, we had some amazing gadgets. Again the Tiptons captured the third Doctor brilliantly and for us so far this is the best issue of the series. The art was really good, some great likenesses and of course for Michael we had Sarah Jane in the story.

This month we have a very special interview about a very special project with friends of the show Keith R. A. DeCandido & J.K Woodward.

Since 2004, Keith has been chronicling the adventures of Torin ban Wyvald, Danthres Tresyllione, and the rest of the Castle Guard as they try to maintain law and order in the port town of Cliff’s End, a city-state that is filled with humans, elves, dwarves, halflings, gnomes, and wizards. These fantasy police procedurals were referred to by one reviewer as “Dungeons & Dragnet,” and have gotten acclaim from sources ranging from respected magazines to review blogs.

Each story sees the detectives of the Castle Guard — aided by the M.E. (the magical examiner, a mage on loan from the Brotherhood of Wizards, who casts a “peel-back” spell on a crime scene) — solving a crime that happens within the demesne of Cliff’s End, dealing with lying witnesses, multiple suspects, jurisdictional issues involving the Brotherhood, and the politics of the city-state.

Now, with the tenth anniversary of Dragon Precinct’s debut fast approaching, Keith wants to tell a new story of Danthres and Torin in a new format: a graphic novel.

During the show Keith and J.K will tell about the Kick Starter campaign,how much they want to raise, how the money will be spent and what you will receive when you contribute to the project. We at the Holodeck think this is a great project and we urge everyone if you can to support the campaign.

Welcome to Holoshorts 3 where we continue our ongoing review of The Animated Series.”.
