Water is common in the life of Jesus. He used it as illustrations as he turned it into wine and spoke truth into people’s lives. He was immersed in water at his baptism and he even used it to point to his own life as water that will quench our internal thirst. Water is life.

In this very moment when Jesus walked on water he was helping his disciples understand that he is the Master of the elements. When we see that even the waves and wind obey him we can then trust him for the storms of our lives. Jesus can give us calm in the storms of life. He can offer peace.

The woman at the well was lost and thirsty. It was a soul thirst that she thought she could satisfy through relationships. Jesus lets her know that only in him will she never thirst again. He speaks about bubbling over in new life.

Jesus takes this moment to launch into His public work by establishing that He was more concerned about our internal life. He came to transform our lives from the inside out. The water to wine is also a symbol of His replacing the Old Covenant with the New Covenant.

Water is a symbol of cleansing and identification. Even though Jesus was without sin, He showed us by example how going into the water of baptism defines our new life in Him.

More like love! What matters is love! When Jesus gave this new command he new that this would be the one that his followers can do to expose who He is. His movement would penetrate every corner of his creation as his followers learned to love. We need to love one another.

Life in general can be very tough. The ups and downs of family, relationships and even work life can all create tough moments. A faith journey can be even tougher. We have an enemy that would love nothing more than to discourage you in your journey of faith. We need to encourage one another on a regular bases. Who we let into this space matters.

To bring about true transformation we need to be willing to confess to one another. Confession is a lost spiritual discipline that can bring about healing and hope. There is power knowing that you are forgiven by Jesus and that power is known when we confess to another Christ Follower who can affirm that forgiveness. There is great freedom in confession.
