Crate digging is an art unto itself. To me, flipping through dusty record bins is a treasure hunt for something personally meaningful.  The record store is the excavation site, the records are the artifacts that tell the story.  Expressed in basic terms it is musical archeology, cultural anthropology.

Record Digging In L.A.! Any road trip necessarily involves visiting local record shops, so we decided to invite other Vinyl Junkies to join us on our first-ever VJ Record Crawl!  12 crate diggers,  4 independent shops, 43 new records to talk about. Plus, we visit Stoughton Printing Company for a tour of how album Jackets are made. Also, Kenny G and the hunt for the best fish tacos in L.A. Dig In!

“Originals vs. Reissues” is a recurrent topic among vinyl junkies.  A quality reissue can offer a great alternative to owning a scratchy original, or spending big money on something scarce. That said, many factors help determine whether you’ve purchased a good or bad pressing of a record. This article hopes to outline a few points which can help you along in your crate digging adventures.

A great record sale never fails to get music nerds excited.  Summertime is generally considered the “low” season for the vinyl market; it’s why we see most of the discounts occurring during this period.  In episode 51, Sam speaks to Matt Hessler of Vinyl Me, Please about the pros and cons of the Summer sale (hint: people complain loudly when it sells out).  Music nerdery ensues.
