When Chrystal Prowse was born, her parents were told that it was unlikely she would survive past early infancy because of a complex congenital heart defect. But Chrystal has not only survived .She has flourished . Thanks to a heart transplant when she was just 11 years old. Chrystal is about to reach the 30th anniversary of her heart transplant. She has been invited to parliament to share her story and stress the importance of organ donations.

Nature NL presents: Environmental Law 101

Aaron Felt is a St. John’s lawyer who specializes in criminal defense, human rights and environmental litigation. As an independent legal practitioner he has advised numerous charities and NGOs who find themselves navigating an adversarial legal process against state or private sector actors. Aaron also has a Master of Laws degree from Dalhousie University in Halifax, where he studied international environmental law and the law of armed conflict. Aaron firmly believes that the public at large should be empowered to use legal tools to safeguard the historical and ecological value of their communities.

Earlier this week the department of fisheries and oceans hosted its groundfish advisory council meetings. A full day was set aside to discuss the decline in northern cod. The Groundfish Enterprise Allocation Council is one of the groups advocating for a cautious approach to the number of cod that can be taken out of our waters. Icewater Seafoods in Arnold’s cove is a member of that group. That plant relies completely on processing cod .
