In this episode, we’re marking International Women’s Day—a time to reflect on the achievements of women, the challenges they continue to face, and the role that faith, society, and activism play in advancing gender equality. For those that may not be aware, International Women’s Day is marked annually on March 8th to recognize the achievements of women and advocate for gender equality. It has its roots in the early 20th century, emerging from labour movements and socialist activism. This year’s theme, "Accelerate Action", reminds us that progress towards true equality cannot wait. As we strive for justice, it is essential to recognise that Islam has long championed the rights of women 1400yrs ago —granting them dignity, independence, and status at a time when many societies denied them even the basic of human rights. From the right to education, financial independence, and leadership to the profound respect Islam gives to the roles of mothers, daughters, and women in all spheres of life, the teachings of the Holy Qur’an and the example of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) provide a timeless framework for gender justice.
