Flora Kelly talks with Amelia Van Howe, an Oboist for Aeolian Winds. She gives a preview of what to expect from their upcoming performance at Bach, Beethoven, and Brunch, and talks about what makes both listening to and being a part of a wind quintet such a unique musical experience.

Flora Kelly speaks with Jim Muchony, Business Manager and Executive Director of the Allegheny Brass Band. Jim fills us in on what we can expect at their upcoming performance at Bach, Beethoven, and Brunch on July 10th. He also gives some background on the folks that make up the band, and why they do the work that they do.

The University of Pittsburgh presents a "Concert of Ukrainian Words and Music" on Thursday July 7th, 7pm at the Frick Fine Arts Auditorium. WQED-FM's Anna Singer spoke with Katie Manukyan, Robert Frankenberry and Adriana Helbig about the concert.

John Robbins, WQED-FM Intern, interviews Doug Meagher in this episode of the Voice of the Arts. Doug is portraying Macbeth in Band of Brothers production of Shakespeare's Macbeth. The production will be held in Stackhouse Park in Johnstown, PA as a part of Band of Brothers 31st season. The production runs July 14th-16th and 20th-23rd.

Pittsburgh New Music Ensemble Executive Artistic Director Kevin Noe and Company manager Lindsey Kesselman who also sings soprano with PNME stopped by to provide a preview of each concert in their July season which begins on the 8th and ends on the 31st at the City Theatre‘s main stage on the SouthSide. It’s the Theater of Music where you’ll want to wear headphones for the full experience and stay afterward to talk it over.

A musical romp from Baroque to Broadway featuring vocals by Lara Lynn McGill and piano virtuoso, Dr. Thanakarn “Bank” Limtham takes place at the Church of the Ascension on Sunday July 10th at 3pm.  They stopped by to talk about the concert with Jim Cunningham and performed three pieces in our studio.

Eric Crosby, the Henry J Heinz Director of the Museum of Art at the Carnegie, discusses with Jim Cunningham The 58th Carnegie International, which will run from September 24th, 2022 through April 2nd, 2023.  The exhibit brings together new commissions, existing works, and projects by established and emerging artists working internationally, domestically, and locally. 

This edition of the Carnegie International is special and unique in that it is more globally representative than any International before it.  Like Eric's vision of the museum itself, Sohrab Mohebbi’s curatorial approach considers artists’ solidarity, artists’ responsiveness to world events, and shows how art can bring people together.  The artist list reflects the expansiveness of the curatorial platform they are evolving at Carnegie Museum of Art.  In addition to the artist list, the title of the exhibition: “Is it morning for you yet?"

Joseph, who is a trumpet player with the Shadyside Brass, gives us a peek at what to expect from their upcoming performance at Bach, Beethoven, and Brunch, shares his journey as a musician, and talks a little about an upcoming CD the group plans to release. Gabriel talks about her move from California to Pennsylvania, her efforts to highlight women composers and musicians of color in classical performances, and her work as an audio engineer contributing to organizations like Shadyside Brass.
