Administered by the Three Rivers Young Peoples Orchestras (TRYPO), UniSound is a collaborative project that provides music education and opportunities for children outside of school time. WQED-FM talks with two members of UniSound's steering committee, Lindsey Nova and Kendra Ross.

Water color artist Gary Bukovnik is featured in "Forever Spring," running through November 2021 in the Welcome Center at Pittsburgh Botanic Garden in Oakdale. On September 9th, he appears for an evening reception and dinner and will present a gift to the permanent collection. September 10th, he presents a Watercolor Masterclass from 9 till noon. Gary Bukovnik is from Cleveland and now lives in San Francisco. One of his early exhibitions was at the Carnegie Museum of Art and he's had a solo show at Concept Art Gallery in Pittsburgh as well as around the world in Europe and Asia as well as the US. He spent time as a visiting artist at the American Academy in Rome. Gary loves classical music and has donated work to the San Francisco Symphony and other orchestras. He is a huge fan of WQED-FM having donated prints to the fundraising effort and listens online in his gallery while working. Gary tells his story-- why he loves flowers and how to get started with painting in this conversation with Jim Cunningham.

Shannon Musgrave, Communications Director of the Regional Asset District, and Terri Bell, Vice President Strategic Partnerships and Community Engagement of the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust, discuss Lights On in the Cultural District and Radical Days beginning Steptember 9th with the Ballet Theater's outdoor stage on Eighth Sreet and events in several locations including along Fort Duquesne Boulevard at Allegheny Overlook Park. The CLO, Pittsburgh Symphony, August Wilson Center, Pittsbugh Public Theater and Pittsburgh Ballet Theater join with a gallery crawl in the art galleries and restaurants to present free events followed by all the hapenings of Radical Days. They also share thoughts on the pandemic implictions for the fall season with Jim Cunningham.

This Sunday, Year 2 of the "Best of the Bluff" concert series returns to in-person concerts with the Sonata No. 4 for Cello and Piano by Beethoven; Schumann's Fantasy-pieces for Cello and Piano; and the Schubert Trout Quintet.  The concert takes place at PNC Recital Hall at 3pm.  Artistic Director David Allen Wehr spoke with WQED-FM's Anna Singer about the series, how the music was chosen; and more.

The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review's documentary "Olympic Oak" tells the story of John Woodruff, who ran track at Pitt and then went on to win a gold medal at the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin. Sean Stipp and Jason Cato collaborated with Chris Benson and The Funky Fly Project to put this film together.

Honduran pianist Oscar Rossignoli, who is based in New Orleans, talks about his new CD "Inertia."

Clarinetist Alexander Fiterstein is considered one of today’s most exceptional artists.  Fiterstein is a founder of the Zimro Project, a unique ensemble dedicated to incorporating Jewish art music into chamber music programs. He is currently Professor of Clarinet and Chair of Winds at the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University.  WQED-FM's Matthew Rygelski spoke to the clarinetist about his career.

Noël Quintana, also known as “Mr. Conga” has been involved with Latin music for over 30 years as a percussionist, researcher, collector of Latin music photos and memorabilia and is the bandleader of Noel Quintana & The Latin Crew.  They perform on Tuesday August 10th, 7:30pm (raindate August 11th) at the Highline for a free outdoor concert by Chamber Music Pittsburgh and their "Just Summer" concert series.  WQED-FM's Anna Singer spoke with Noel about the concert and more in this conversation.
