Gregory Lehane, director and acting instructor for the school of music at Carnegie Mellon University directs Acis and Galatea by Handel. In the interview, Gregory talks about the inspiration for this modernized production set in Cuba, some history about the production and his collaboration with music director Christopher Larkin. Soprano Lindsey Chinn explains the technical challenges of the role Galatea, the rehearsal process and some of the themes in the show. Jim Cunningham speaks with Marie-Louise Langlais, widow of French organist and composer Jean Langlais. She discusses Robert Sutherland Lord (1930-2014) and the Sainte- Clotilde Tradition in Paris along with Lord’s students and colleagues who will give a recital at Heinz Memorial Chapel on Sunday October 30th 2016 at 3pm. Mrs. Langlais remembers her husband’s friendship with composer Olivier Messiaen, discusses his personality and blindness, describes Langlais' most terrifying piece La Cinquieme trompette, “The Fifth Trumpet” from the CInq Meditations sur l’Apocalypse inspired by the Book Of Revelations, remembers their life together with daughter Caroline and dog Scherzo, speaks about the music Langlais wrote for her including when she performed at the same organ bench with her husband and the importance of Pittsburgh organists Anne Labounsky, Donald Wilkins, Douglas Himes and Robert Sutherland Lord in interpreting the music of Jean Langlais (1907-1991).

Pianist Ewa Poblocka fill us in on her Pittsburgh debut Friday October 21st at 7:30 in the Frick Fine Arts Building at the University of Pittsburgh for the Polish Cultural Council of Pittsburgh. One of Poland’s most famous Chopin competition winners—she describes the special atmosphere at the Warsaw Competition where she has served as a juror, talks about the “real” way to play Chopin, the interesting Polish composers of the current generation, the films of Andrej Wajda, recordings she admires of Chopin, her Pittsburgh program and the chamber music she is playing on tour in the US.
