Ms. Liz Williams, Seneca Valley Nursing Administrator

Ms. Liz Williams is the Administrative Nurse at Seneca Valley and is leading the health services efforts during this critical time.
Prior to this role, she was the nurse at Ryan Gloyer Middle School and was recently named a winner of The Highmark Foundation’s sixth annual Advancing Excellence in School Nursing Awards, created to honor and recognize the important role that school nurses play in keeping children healthy.
Ms. Williams will work closely with the Pennsylvania Department Health, in addition to utilizing data from them and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), to assure best practices in caring for students and staff.

IN THIS EPISODE, WE WILL REVIEW
• Educating families, staff and students on symptom monitoring and when to stay home
• Educating families, staff and students on measures to decrease the risk of becoming ill
• Educating families, staff and students on what to do when they are not feeling well
• Sharing protocols for dealing with ill staff and students during the school day
• Detailing protocols for working with guidance staff in educating students when they need to stay home and miss multiple days of school

Dr. Jeff Roberts, Seneca Valley Supervisor of Gifted Education and Student Services

Dr. Jeff Roberts has been an administrator in the Seneca Valley School District since 2009, and currently serves as the Seneca Valley Supervisor of Gifted Education and Student Services.
He recently earned his degree in doctoral studies at Indiana University of Pennsylvania in Administration and Leadership Studies. In addition to supervising gifted education, Mr. Roberts oversees the school counseling, health service and library departments.
Dr. Roberts is a graduate of the Leadership Butler County program. He is also currently a member of the Butler County Suicide Prevention Coalition, and a board member of the Butler County Alliance for Children.

• How recent training related to trauma-informed schools will affect school staff
• How we can help students feel comfortable at school (ex: virtual introductions)
• How our Learn, Explore, Act, Develop (LEAD) Program can support students

Mr. Fred Peterson, Seneca Valley Return to School Steering Committee (RSSC) Member

Mr. Fred Peterson and his family have lived in the Seneca Valley School District for over 20 years.
He and his wife, Cece, have two sons who are Seneca Valley graduates. Mr. Peterson serves on teh Seneca Valley School Board representing Cranberry Township West IV and West VI, Region 4.
Mr. Peterson earned a bachelor’s Degree from Tufts University outside Boston where he completed a double major in Sociology and Education. He later graduated from the Yale University School of Medicine with a master’s Degree in Public Health. Now retired, Mr. Peterson worked in emergency preparedness and public health and served as the Executive Director of the regional Emergency Medical Services Agency.
Most recently, he was also a highly valued and contributing member of the Seneca Valley Return to School Steering Committee, and he joins us today to share his insights on both the committee and COVID-19.

• The creation of the RSSC and related benefits of having people in the conversation vs. getting things done quickly with less input
• The evolution of the thinking and conversation from discreet topics to a systemwide view
• The realization that the school system reaches much further than its central mission of education
