David Turner, a retired forester and Mann Gulch guide joined Voices of Montana to tell the tale of the 1949 Mann Gulch fire in the Helena National Forest. The fire claimed the lives of twelve smokejumpers from the the 10-year old Missoula Smokejumper base and a USFS fire guard. Three firefighters survived. Their story forever changed the way the U.S. Forest Service fought fires.
