  • George Grande

George Grande has just about done it all in broadcasting.  He’s a play-by-play announcer for the Cincinnati Reds, he’s been the “mc” for the Baseball Hall Of Fame,  and was one of the first anchors in the history of ESPN.  A former baseball player at USC, his professional baseball announcing has taken him from the Yankees, to the Cardinals, and now, the Reds.

I recorded this podcast this past summer with George.  He has some great stories about the early days of ESPN and the very first day they launched the network.  Our conversation takes us to ESPN, Vin Scully, the craft of announcing, to having dinner with some of the biggest names I sports.  If you are an aspiring broadcaster, he has some great advice in this podcast as well.  Enjoy my conversation with George Grande!

  • Jim Hayes

Jim Hayes has been a reporter/host for Fox Sports Midwest for 18 years.  He is a 1984 graduate of the State University College at Geneseo, N.Y.  He was an Emmy winner in 2012 and has been nominated for several regional Cable Ace and Emmy awards.  He’s able to cover the “lighter side” of sports.

I get many questions about the various personalities I work with and that certainly includes Jim.  He’s one of the funniest people I get the chance to work with.  In this podcast you’ll hear about his entertainment background and what brought him to St. Louis.  He’s a great talent and we are lucky to have him in St. Louis. Enjoy!

  • Brian Anderson

Brian Anderson has called the play-by-play for the Milwaukee Brewers telecasts since 2007. In addition to those duties, he’s been one of the voices for the NCAA tournament and the NBA. You will hear Brian calling MLB playoff games again this fall.

I really enjoyed this visit with Brian. I consider him not only one of the best voices in sports but, an outstanding friend as well. In this podcast, you’ll hear about Jack Buck being an influence in his career, calling historic moments, and what it’ll mean to him to be in St. Louis for the upcoming PGA championship at Bellerive. • Marty Brennaman

Marty Brennaman has been the “voice” of the Cincinnati Reds since 1974.  In 2000, he was the recipient of the prestigious Ford C. Frick Award, presented annually by the National Baseball Hall of Fame to a broadcaster “for major contributions to the game of baseball.”  In addition to his work in baseball, Marty has been the voice of the NCAA Basketball tournament, football assignments, and so many other sporting events.

I had the chance to visit with Marty on a recent trip into Cincinnati.  Among the many topics we discussed, there was a look back at what Jack Buck meant to Marty’s career.  What it’s like working with his son next to him in the booth.  His biggest influences in the business, that include some of the biggest names in the history of sports broadcasting.  He’s never shy with his opinion and that’s certainly the case in my visit with Marty.
