September 30 Mistress of the Animals Helping Us Maneuver This Untamed World
Let's take a look at the Mistress of the Animals or Lady of the Beasts to understand her in symbol and concept and see how, like the ancients, we might use her as a tool or buffer to keep the dangerous and untamed world out there at bey so we might survive and thrive. Lets look at her as a symbol or role model for female authority, control and sovereignity. Then get paper and pen ready to think about these prompts:
1) If you grew up with these myths, how might it change social constructs like patriarchy in society? Would it exist?
2) What decisions might you make differently?
3) How might you see yourself differently?
4) Think about that feral wild woman within we force to lay dormant in civilized society - what is she like, what is she forced to sacrifice? What would we do if there were not rules or no one was watching? How might you restructure your life?
5) Where in your life are you sacrificing your freedom?
6) What parts of your true nature or voice have you locked away to keep others comfortable or to fit in?

July 22 Who Were the Amazons? Were they Lesbian?
Taking a look at what contemporary and ancient writers said about the Amazons and their lifestyles. Did they really live in female only societies? Were they hetero, bi-sexual or lesbian? Taking a look at Xena, Gabrielle and Wonder Woman and asking if men have a problem understanding fluid female emotions. Can we normalize gender fluidity? Does society, religion and culture groom us to be hetero when that might not be our authentic bent? By bringing history, mythology and fluidity of the ancient world to light, we see how much more rigid contemporary society is today as the ancient world didn't even have words for lesbian, gay or homosexuality. Today I summarize a Substack article I mention in the episode about how 40-60% of Puritan women kidnapped by Native American tribes actually preferred living with the progressive thinking tribes to their Puritan husbands and did not want to return to their Puritan culture - including lesbian women who were not abominations in Native American culture. Learn more about the false captivity narratives started by Puritan ministers that sanitized what we learned about the expansion of the US settlers westward and misinformed us about what was really playing out in people's lives. July 08 Lesbian Goddesses within Goddess Spirituality
People in the ancient world were a lot more accepting of the spectrum or fluidity of gender from androgynous divinities to lesbian or gay gods and goddesses. In fact, in Greece, there wasn't even a word for lesbian, gay or homosexual. Today I'll chat about this and share the names and descriptions of several of the ancient lesbian goddesses, some of which are contemporary icons for lesbian women today.
